This model is pretty compact and good for personal carry as it can be easily concealed. Sabre is a reputable company and you definitely want to buy personal defense products from a well known company. It would not be nice to buy that cheap spray only to find out when you use it that its effectiveness is sub-par. There are several good videos of Sabre pepper spray in action on Youtube and I would recommend viewing them and deciding for yourself.
This bottle also comes with a detachable key ring mount that seems to be of good quality and has a quick release button to separate the two rings. I gave it several good strong pulls and it didn't give at all, but comes apart very easily by pushing the detach button. The button is recessed enough that it would be hard for it to get depressed by accident.
The button to deploy the spray must be pushed to the right with your finger before it can be pressed down to spray. I like this type of safety feature better than the "flap lid" that many sprays have, though that is just personal preference.
The quality of this product, compact size, reputation of Sabre, and fact this is made in the USA are all reasons I would recommend this spray
Bottom line: He had released the smallest amount a quick tap would allow (not much Reddish-material in sink he sprayed into). The product carried in the house so quickly (nice day, open windows), was amazing. You need to consider wind in situations of use of course. But if an attacker gets the brunt of the spray in the face, whatever residual effects you suffer will incapacitate the attacker, and allow you to get the hell away...hacking but unharmed. Powerful stuff. This experience convinced me this spray in the face is DEVASTATING. We could not be comfortable in the house again for at least 20 mins. Highly recommended!
Concerning effects to user: There is no similarity to the effects of a full blast in attacker's face, and any over-spray/back wind you may experience. The full face effect is going to "cripple" the attacker, enough time for you to get away. Even a back-lash exposure, while making your eyes tear, and coughing wildly, will not put you on the ground. You'll be able to put great distance between the attacker and yourself, even call 911.
Do not do as I did.
To give you some background, I am a career military soldier, with 4 deployments to Iraq. After my last tour I took a job as a bodyguard. I am also a patron of concerts and clubs. Suffice it to say I've been exposed to some of the best crowd control in the business.
You have about 5 to 10 seconds of coherance (barely) after contact, and after that, your only concern is pain. Even with my prior experiance, I was completely incapacitated. If I were an earnest attacker, this would deter my attack immediately. My wife is not a trained combatant, and she hit me with a glancing spray across my cheek and that was enough to stop me. (Ideally one would draw a line from ear to ear for max. effect)
There is no quick cure for the pain, as is the case with most OC sprays. Even with the coolit spray which is intended to reduce the effects, you are still out of action for at least 30 minutes.
Some tips when using this product.
-TEST YOUR PRODUCT WHEN YOU OPEN IT!!! There is a 1 in 5000 chance that your device may be defective. Go outside and spray a few lines downwind just to be sure it will not fail you in that critical moment.
-AFTER YOU SPRAY someone, LEAVE THE AREA IMMEDIATELY. If you stay, your assailant may go into a rage which not even OC spray can stop. If you decide to take the fight to the attacker, then you risk losing your right to self defense and crossing over to getting an assault charge. Just go.Read more ›
I was sprayed three, two in X-formation across my face with direct contact with my eyelids and one directly across my eyes; a small amount entered my mouth almost immediately as I choked for air. Initially, the pain was rather minute...with a massive buildup of mucus forming in my mouth, nose, and throat as my body attempted to rid itself of the chemicals. The mucus built up to a point, even with repeated spitting and cleaning with running water/saline, where I felt as though my airway would be compromised altogether. This sensation of borderline-panic really only served to elevate the effects of the spray as the product began attacking at every pore on my face and neck, even places that had not been directly contacted by the spray. I would have to say that "intense" is the word I'd use to describe this...though "f***ing intense" is probably more accurate.
About 8-10 minutes in, the mucus flow had begun to subside and I regained "normal" breathing rhythms...though the worst was yet to come. As I lay there on the grass, furiously trying to ventilate my face and alleviate the intense burning (literally felt as though my face was being touched by hot coals, I kid you not), I realized that this is one of those things that you have to just sit out when it gets to a certain point.Read more ›
