Good for cabled hard drives. Not for hard drive carriers.

NOTE that this Amazon listing includes two different items: BK-PCBS and BK-HDDH. Here I am reviewing the BK-HDDH which sells at a lower price than the BK-PCBS. (I'm adding this note 7 months after my original purchase, I think the listing may have changed in that time. Below is my original review of the BK-HDDH.)

It's good for what it is, but I should point out that it aligns the SSD to center. So, the SATA and power connectors don't end up in the same place they would if this were a normal hard drive.

So, this is not the adapter to get if your hard drive fits in a sled and slides into a bay where it connects to a backplane. The connectors will not align. See my picture for greater clarity.

If you're putting the SSD in a case where you just connect a SATA cable, this adapter is just fine.

Samsung 840 Evo in the hard drive tray, and then installed in the plastic tray in a Dell Optiplex 755.

Note that the tray centers the drive and the connectors. It does not put the SATA connectors in the same location that the connectors would be on a 3.5" drive (see my next picture). This made reassembly in the Optiplex 755 very difficult. It also recessed the SATA connectors back about an inch instead of bringing the connectors to the same 'flush' back as a standard 3.5" drive's connectors.

With that said, good tray if you understand what the final mounting is like.

A big Nope for Mac Pro drive sleds -- drive is misaligned when mounted

I am sure this is a perfectly fine 2.5" to 3.5" adaptor for most purposes -- but it's a big Nope if you're trying to mount an SSD in an older Mac Pro. Unfortunately, I was! The construction is good, heavy-gauge painted steel, and for most purposes (where the drive will connect with ribbon cables, I presume), the fact that the 2.5" drive is centered on the adaptor isn't an issue. Unfortunately, on the Mac Pro (mine is a 2006 1.1 version), the drive sleds are slide-in units without cables -- very slick with a 3.5" drive bolted to the sled assembly. Unfortunately, this assumes the pin-out connector is off-center as it is on the 3.5" drive -- and that isn't the case with this adaptor in the mix.

Check your application carefully before considering this product. As I said, I am sure it is fine in most standard desktop PC applications where the connection is made by a ribbon cable -- but in any installation where the alignment of the connectors is fixed, this is not your answer.

The best SSD bracket so far...

This is the best bracket for SSD mounting in nearly any desktop PC. It has screw holes in the same places as a standard hard disk.
Regular side bolt 3.5" bay -> WORKS
Flat mount that uses the bottom drive screw holes -> WORKS
Tray mount with screws or posts that grab side screw holes -> WORKS

This is one of the few SSD mount brackets that fits in these types of scenarios, and you can fit a 2nd SSD drive as well!
When you install this, be prepared for issues connecting power (or Sata) if your PC has angled plugs. If your current power cables barely reach the old HDD, they will be too short because the SSD plugs will sit about an inch deeper into the bracket due to the smaller size. Use straight plug sata cables and buy one of these splitters to solve the length and 2nd SSD power plug needs:
Electop SATA Power Y Splitter Cable 6 Inch
Also be sure to use the screws that come with this bracket and not the ones from your old drive, some are larger and you can strip out the screw holes trying to mount it. If possible, connect all data/power cables before sliding bracket into the PC, connections can be hard to reach once its bolted in.

As other reviews have pointed out, this adapter does not address the problem many of us have where we want the 2.5 inch drive to plug in the way out 3.5 inch drives do. That is, with the off set to the side.
For example, I have a 2011 MacPro. (That's a desktop tower for you non-Apple folks.) The Sabrent adapter did not work. I would have needed ribbon cables. Too fussy.

Good raw materials, but the hole spacing appears to not match any standard I can find.

The idea is great, but this implementation is not very well thought out. The holes seem to be in the wrong locations to match the way it is supposed to be used. For example: if I use the screw holes on the side of my SSD and mount it in this adapter, then the end of the drive that needs to have the connectors attached does not get close enough to the end of the bracket to allow the power and sata cables to be attached. If I try to use the holes on the bottom of the drive, then only 2 at a time will fit. The other 2 are not even close to aligned. Even the 2 that I wound up using are spaced slightly too far apart across the width of the drive to be able to work without filing them a bit first.

Even mounting the 3-1/2 portion of the thing in the brackets that slide into my computer didn't fit correctly. Isn't there some sort of standard for this? I wound up just being able to use 1 screw on each side because I couldn't get a position where all 4 would fit. Since I could only use 2 screws, I just tightened them really tight to keep the whole thing from swiveling. Eventually, I'll drill a few more holes in this thing to let me use it correctly. The customer really shouldn't have to modify it at this level to use it. If you get this, just consider it the raw materials for maybe making what you really want.

If *I* were to make one of these, I'd just put a whole string of holes along the length of the thing and let the customer decide which one's they wanted to use.
