Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

Cons:
About half the pressure is needed to press the right click button as is needed for the left click button, making right click very sensitive. This takes a few days to get used to, but isn't enough of an annoyance to drop a star.
Update: Minus one star because the wheel on one of these started to squeak. A little bit of dry lubricant fixed the issue, but still disappointing. I also stuffed part of a folded up sticky note under the right mouse button to make it a bit stiffer, now it feels much better.
Believe it or not, the older offerings were actually better in a lot of ways (even without the optical balls), but the don't make them anymore. Or you will pay hundreds for a used one which may not have compatible drivers anymore.
Anyway, the offerings are slim pickings nowadays. You have the barely acceptable Logitech (which is designed for smaller hands really). The ELECOM could be a winner, but it doesn't a "middle button" click as a software option (even though the button is there)...a really bad move on their part.
This one is very basic, but has a good ball and works well. The size is a little bigger than others, which is nice (though still small for my large hands). The right button is a little big and sort of puts the ring finger in no mans land...but acceptable.
Overall, I think this will be my go to trackball because of comfort. It allows my fingers to be more straight than the others, which feel more like being curled up in a ball. It is definitely worth a shot if you like thumb balls and find the others less than ergonomic or user friendly.
Bottom line: If you can live with wireless, get the Logitech M570. If you have a need for a wired trackball, then the Sanwa won't disappoint. But just don't kid yourself thinking it's the same as the M570, it is not.

If you're wondering how the mouse-hand position will feel then simply take another mouse, small ball or bunched up paper towel and put directly under your palm like you're resting your hand on a mouse. Let fingers and thumb be loose and that will be the position of the trackball. Don't have to tense your thumb to use the mouse and you won't scrape your thumb across hard plastic if you go half an inch like on other models. Would highly recommend buying.

It doesn't have the two extra navigation buttons the trackman does, but honestly I never used them anyway, so it's not a detriment to me. My only real complaint is that the more gradual slope and slightly larger size makes it a bit more difficult to lift off the desk and move around, but that's an incredibly minor gripe against what I am pleased to say seems to be an excellent product.
It also has a red LED in it! I had no idea, so it caught me by surprise.
1. this trackball works very well indeed! With an over 5000 pixel desktop (two 2456x1600 pixel monitors side-by-side) it works like a breeze. A delicate, short stroke of your thumb onto the "red ball", and you effortlessly move from one extreme of that huge desktop to the other! The "red ball" rotates effortlessly, with a smoothness unprecedent in all trackballs we ever used (over 10 Logitech cordless trackman wheel, 4 Logitech M570, 2 Microsoft trackball optical). Both buttons and the wheel also work very well with little effort.
2. most unfortunately, the overall shape (curvature) of this trackball hardly fits the hand in a natural way. Just hold your arm beside your body, with arm and hand relaxed. Hence, try to match the hand's shape with either this trackball, or the Logitech Cordless Trackman (or their M570 model). The latter ones both show a more distinct curvature (smaller radius), which fits most if not all hands effortlessly. Conversely, the Sanwa trackball will require that you squeeze your hand dowm to some extent onto the trackball's "more flat" shape. For several people this may not be a problem, while it certainly gave / gives me the occasional discomfort or some pain upon use.
CONCLUSION: a marvellous trackball in many ways, with some serious shortcoming/s which ought not to be difficult to correct - an improved version 2? Personally, we here very much hope that Sanwa may be in a position to come up with such "improved version 2" showing a correct shape. Upon our extensive experience in our BioMed research lab, we would promptly buy at lest a dozen immediately!
Been using it for a week and adapted to it immediately. Despite its size, it feels flatter than the M570. This means that your wrist doesn't rotate outward as much when cupping the device. This may not suit all users with RSI issues but for me it was negligible.
Works faultlessly with Linux too. That's enough for me.
Switches are a little noisy but very accurate and responsive. Cable length is sufficient. My only criticism would be that it lacks weight. When I get around to opening it up, I guess I'll hot-glue some heavy washers or similar to the baseplate. Other than that, I'm delighted. Great value for money.
Retail pack was well packaged for shipping. Arrived within a couple of weeks despite Customs.
