I really love this product just order a size bigger if you have a big butt. Besides that it's great. I posted a picture with it on off my butt so you can see how it sort of digs in under your butt. Just know that when buying it.

Ill be honest. I was not expecting much out of this after realizing it may not fit. I am 5 ft 4 inches, 240 lbs. Im a big girl. I ordered a 3xl. I pulled it out of the package and thought, yeah this aint fitting. Rofl. But I put it on...of course it was tight. Its supposed to be tight. I walked out of the room, went to mirror and seen what you see. I was impressed. I walked by my hubby...didnt say a thing...i guess he noticed too...he wanted to have some mommy daddy fun time...and he hit it from behind. ... THANK YOU AMAZON!!!!

The top section does some smoothing out but it does not have any shaping effects, the 4 plastic bones only start at your lower ribs so there's no point to them other than to keep the top section from rolling down. Do not expect a corsetting effect. The highest point was just under my bra line. The bottom cut outs are perhaps a little too small, but it's impossible to accommodate everyone's bum. I feel like the bottom portion does define the bottom of your bum, but the top of the cutout do kind of compress the top of your bum, creating a slight downward appearance of your behind. In addition, the shapewear creases on my lower back a little, I think purchasing one with shoulder straps would prevent rolling or creasing. It is pretty descrete under clothing, but you can make out a thigh line in tight pants, but it's unnoticeable in dresses.
Overall I'm happy with it. I have always used standard slip style compression garments under dresses, but they always compress my bum, so this is an improvement. My only complaint is that I'm not getting the compression I wanted through the midsection, because I had to order up a size to ensure the bum portion would fit.
