The 700x35 fits the 29” easily with the 700x35 tube. Since the trails are mostly paved, I decided to save money and get this road version. To my surprise, it fits! This road tire rolls a lot faster for the amount of watts you put into the pedal. Haven't checked it yet, but is seems like I'm going faster. I reached the max pedal potential at the lowest gear on the MTB with these tires. Before it took a lot more effort. The downside on a MTB, is you feel more bumps as the tires are inflated to a higher pressure, and going over gravel beats the crud out of you. On the upside, riding on smooth concrete feels like you're flying.
These are definitely heavy due to the thick walls, but they seem extremely sturdy. Only 300 miles on them but so far so good after much broken road side glass.
I purchased this tire along with two other items...to upgrade my old bike. My goal was to make my tires as flat-free as possible. This tire has "smartguard", which is about 5mm thick; add that to the rubber that is above and below the smartguard, and that means there is about 8-9mm between the road and the tube.
There are goathead weeds in my area, and they flatten tires real fast. I don't rely on this tire as my only defense. I also purchased a quality tire liner: Mr. Tuffy Bicycle Tire Liner. And I purchased quality tubes: 2 x Schwalbe Inner Tubes - 26" x 1.50 to 2.50 - Schrader/Auto Valve - PAIR - FREE VALVE CAP UPGRADE [No. AV13].
Between the tire and the tire liner, there is about 10-11mm of barrier between my tube and the road. That's enough to keep the goat heads out.
Slime doesn't work for me--it just clogs the tube value; and after a while, Slime dries and clumps inside the tube, making it useless.
The tire was easy to install. I have tire levers and a Quik Stik Tire Changer. The Quik Stik makes it easy to pop the last bit of tire over the rim.
I'm happy with my purchase, and I'm looking forward to a future with no flats!
