Bottom line: Fun knife to have for the price and not having to worry about messing it up.
To start with, this knife comes with a fantastic firesteel fire starter. Firesteels of this size and quality typically cost more than what's being charged for this knife alone. So it wouldn't be bad to think of this as a good quality firesteel, at a great price, that just happens to come with a free knife.
Now, as for the knife, it's a perfectly acceptable knife, but it will need some work to get it into the proper condition.
First off, the nylon cording that was used to wrap the handle is very sub-par. It is not paracord by any means. So you will need to re-wrap the handle yourself, with your own paracord. You can find paracord here on Amazon at excellent prices. And there are wonderful videos on YouTube that show you different patterns and techniques for wrapping the handle to your preference.
Secondly, knife aficionados will want to put a new edge on the knife. (And if you're looking for an effective and easy to use knife-sharpening kit that won't break the bank, I strongly recommend the Lanksy Sharpening Stone System kits. I personally prefer their deluxe model. You will need the read the instructions, as it is a very unique sharpening system, but once you get your head wrapped around it, it is basically idiot-proof.) And third, the knife sheath leaves a little to be desired. If you're tossing this knife in a Bug out Bag or just keeping it in your toolbox or junk drawer, the sheath will do just fine. But if you're planning on keeping this knife on your belt and it will see heavy use, then you'll want to upgrade the sheath.
Now as for the handling of the knife, I could not be happier with it. And it is my favorite knife for just about any job.Read more ›
With a pricetag like this one, you could/can have one of these just about anywhere a need might arise - in your car, in your ATV/UTV, in your camping box, etc.
A full-tang knife that could cut a seat belt, whittle a campfire stick, do a little bit of very light emergency wood batoning, or dissuade a dog from clamping down on you or your child for very long.
The sheath is cheap - I would not plan on falling down on top of this knife for fear of cutting yourself.
The velcro closure is OK - I would not plan on doing a P.T. run with this on your side and expect that it won't ever loosen up or even fly out of the sheath.
Mine came sharper than what others have reported - looks like they made an effort to clean these up a bit. Nice, sharp point especially.
An OK purchase at close to $7...back when these were closer to $5, it would have been an absolute steal.
