This review upgraded from a one star to 2 because the seller sent me a new device that was somewhat better than the initial one piece.

What I initially received was not quite as pictured. I got a gold toned device with the same design. The case I received was different. It was a plastic case with padding. The lens has a chip in it. The lens was extremely cloudy and could not be cleaned because the dirt is on the inside of the lenses. It had at least two lenses, but I am not sure that it was a triplet. The focal point is in the very center of the lens, which was as I expected. I highly doubt that it's a 30 X magnification. Probably a 5-10 X. I am not sure about this, however. I wanted to return it, and the company sent me a label but wanted me to pay for the shipping. When I questioned them about this, they told me they would send me a brand-new lens with no extra charge. I had to contact them twice to send me the second lens. I finally did get the second lens. It is clearer than the first, and does not seem to have a chip missing. It is still cloudy, but not as cloudy.

Two months of daily use, several times a day..just keeping a weather eye on fungi.
Great timesaver for me, the loupe acts as a low power microscope in my pocket, so I
don't have to set up the "real" microscope to use it's "low power" [40x] optics.
Hundreds of opening/closing cycles, hinged cover still tight as new. Lens solidly
encased, no wiggling/rattling. Clear glass optics. Leather case was a nice touch.
Can't beat the price for optics in this class.
[If you haven't used a loupe before, keep in mind that it must be VERY close to your
eye. Had folks hand it back to me with a "it don't work" comment. Yes, it does work, Sam..just gotta' get it real close to your eye!]
Great fun to see everyday stuff [like micro critters] 30x larger.

Better quality than I expected

I normally use a high quality 10x loupe to check coins and jewelry but occasionally I need something stronger. I was hesitant in ordering this because I did not think I could get a good quality triplet loupe for only $12. It is much better than I expected with good clarity across most of the field of view and what looks and feels like a solid build. It is not up there with the best optics but for the price I do not think it can be beat especially for occasional use. The carry case is also a nice touch. Like all higher power loupes this can be tricky to use since the eye relief is so short so I use my 10x whenever possible but this completely meets my needs when the situation demands a higher power.

Excellent quality for the price with pretty fair optics. You do have to hold this loupe close to your eye and the object you're looking at and the depth of field is very narrow, however, it has never caused a problem in the field.

If you brace the loupe against your finger, which is braced against your face, it is easy to maintain a steady sharp image. It just takes a short learning curve to determine the best method for yourself.

I bought two of these because I was reading about how you can examine marijuana flowers and by close examination of the plant with a 30x multiplier, one can determine when the flower begins to crystallize and determine the best time to harvest, etc. I gave one to my friend so he could check it out and to test it out, I looked at a spider that was on the wall, and I could see the hairs on the spiders legs. Also it can come in handy to read small part numbers on electronic components, or look for solder fractures etc. Neat tool and cheap too.

I am no kind of expert on magnified viewing devices. I was reading reviews and decided to spend a little money over a 3 dollar loupe just incase. I don't know if it makes a difference. This loupe works for what I needed. As a medical marijuana patient I use this to inspect the trichomes on my plants. The next loupe I buy, I will try one with a led because sometimes it is difficult to get good lighting and be right up on the plant. I like the little leather pouch it comes in. It seems to feel like the swivel on the loupe is less firm and swings easier. that has not caused any problems yet.

About as high a magnification as I would attempt with a hand held loupe. This takes a steady hand and some work to get enough light, but has a great image once you take the effort. I find many things to use this for, but mostly to check the edge of knives and straight razors while sharpening. Much more convenient than a microscope.
