Seagate is thinking green.

"This has led the largest disk drive manufacturer in the world, Seagate, to create new drives that no longer use chlorine- and bromine-based chemistries. This success was largely facilitated by the company's full material disclosure system, which allows its engineers to know the complete chemical content of their products."

Users can expect a performance boost when using Seagate hard drives with Windows 7
  • Windows 7 has shown to use fewer hard drive resources for system boot and general OS operations, speeding up overall performance and leaving more storage resources for applications.
  • Cache efficiency has improved. Customers who choose Seagate drives with bigger cache options will see added benefit. Seagate testing confirms improved performance from Windows Vista to Windows 7 on like hard drives with only cache size differences.

let me start off by saying that this was my first computer build, and originally i was using a WD cavier black 2tb hdd, everyone was going nuts about those things i figured theyd be wat i wanted, i was very very wrong, the first one i ordered failed after a week, i RMAed it, the new drive faild after 2 or 4 days, so i RMAed it again, this new drive failed only minutes after the install, so i decided i was just going to get a refund and find a new drive. i started thinking that my previous 2 prefabs both used seagate drives and they had worked flawlessly so i did some research and ordered this guy right here, after my issues with my WD mass storage drive i was very skeptical about how well this one would work, but i was pleasently surprised. for the first week i sort of had a reflexive flinch that it was about to fail but it never did, it so far hasnt even had so much as a minor hickup. i will say it did take me just a little while to figure out how to set up the remaining 0.8 tb, but that actually turned out to be my fault (i let the computer restart after and installation without knowing that the seagate software hadnt fully downloaded yet lol) but wonce i fixed it i really dont have enough good things to say about this. hope this helps anyone interested in this drive.

It might be a great hard drive, but my Mac Pro couldn't see it. It was the newest Mac Pro available in Jan. 2012 (made in mid 2010).

I just thought I'd let other people know that the motherboard has to be able to accept a 6Gb/s hard drive.

Real fast and reliable hard drive. Works out to 2.72TB of space. Windows 7 downloads the drivers automatically so you don't need to worry about the size of the drive being an issue. It does get a little hot, and it should be placed behind a fan in your case if possible. It is faster than my Western Digital black caviar 2.0TB by a decent margin.

It's big it's cheap. Just be careful to keep your data backed up, Seagates sometimes have reliability issues. But for the price it works.

These drives fail right after the manufacturers warranty expires, I have two dead ones sitting on my desk right now. I picked up these Seagate drives after years of misery with Western Digital drives, hoping to have a better experience with another big brand in the HDD world. Instead I am looking at 6+ TB of dust collectors on my desk. These are garbage, skip it the high capacity drive and go with an SSD with no moving parts, it'll be faster and as long as you buy one with a good controller chip, it should be rock solid.
