The story that unfolds is one that had me in tears at times but also cheering for them as Xander tries his best to handle his PTSD for Bailey. The emotions that grow between them as he shares with her his experiences while secluded during the storm and how he deals when she regains her memories and leaves the mountain to take care of her dad....emotional. I loved how caring, understanding, loving & compassionate Bailey was and how she went after what she wanted, standing by Xander, encouraging him & accepting him just as he is.
An amazing story filled with emotions, heartache, heartbreak but also hope, acceptance and longing to want to be the best person for the one you love. Along with the steamy, sensual scenes between these two that made me sigh & swoon as well as all the emotions it brought out in me....I could go on and on of how much I loved this read and Xander & Bailey as it is my favorite from this author thus it's why that even though I received an ARC I had to buy it because it's so worth it.
Regardless of what's up front, what's inside is another great story from this author.
I loved Xander. He was a big ol' teddy bear, nice and sweet. He's suffering from PTSD and finds it a little easier to deal with his day-to-day away from people. So he hides away in a cabin up in the mountains. Bailey is a school teacher and care-giver for her dying father. She goes hiking one day and miscalculates the weather. She hurts herself and Xander finds her at the side of his mountain just as a blizzard is rolling in.
The characters slowly tiptoe into a relationship then hit the fast forward button. Bailey is hesitant because she's battling with a head injury that has left her with temporary memory loss and Xander is finding surprising comfort with having someone around (all day) for the first time. The author did a great job of showing Xander's emotional/internal struggle to understand behavior and people and I loved Bailey's patience. They truly did complement each other perfectly.
The characters were well-developed and I loved the secondary characters—Liam's charm and charisma, Lila was the epitome of a best friend, and Bailey's father was endearing. The writing flowed well other than the over use of chuckling and giggling. Some things fell easily into place, too easily. But the blooming relationship between these two made up for any shortcomings.
This is another great addition to this series. As a note, it can be read as a stand alone.
/I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. This did not affect my opinion of the book or content of my review./
The story was so sweet and sad at the same time. Xander is dealing with a lot of issues from his past in the Navy SEALs. His PTSD is extremely bad and the nightmares horrible. This is the whole reason why he is alone in the woods away from all civilization. Bailey is a sweet schoolteacher who is taking care of her father who has cancer. The characters are wonderful. The story flows so smoothly.
This book will grab you by the heartstrings and pull until you can't breathe. I was hooked from the very first page and could not put the book down. It was such a heart felt story. You could just feel the love between the two main characters and wish that everything will turn out perfect for them, when in reality it is not so easy. This was a wonderful read, but be ready to have a box of tissues on hand.
