About the Author
She shares her life with two dogs and a ginormous cat in a small town in New York, but she suffers from a bad case of wanderlust and usually ends up moving someplace new every couple years. Luckily, her animals are all excellent travel buddies. When she's not writing, Tonya spends her time reading, painting, exploring new places, and enjoying time with her family.

Gabe Bristow, former Navy SEAL, sidelined from his career by a car crash while on R&R; Travis Quinn, a former SEAL sidelined by the same car crash; Jean-Luc Cavalier, ex- CIA, Linguist; Marcus Deangleo, former FBI Negotiator; Eric "Harvard" Physic, ex-CIA, IT specialist; Ian Reinhart, explosive ordnance expert; Jesse Warrick, former Delta Force Medic.
Gabe Bristow, ex SEAL, is in charge of this misfit team. Their first job? rescue a wealthy businessman, Bryson Van Amee, from South American captors. Who are asking for ransom for him. Gabe has to get this team of men in shape to rescue Bryson, with little to no training in how to work as a team. The guys have no sense of military discipline, and are extremely non-responsive to authority. Gabe and Travis have to make these guys into a well-oiled team, and get them to have some type of semblance of respect for them.
Audrey was on the phone with her brother Bryson when he was kidnapped. Audrey is snooping around Bryson's house in Columbia when one of the team members stops her, and brings her to the safe house for questioning. Sparks fly between Audrey and Gabe....
The plot of the book is to rescue Bryson Van Amee, but it also introduces us to the team, and takes us on a journey of deceit and lies. The book melds the team, and starts them working together. There are several scenes that are quite poignant, as they show the respect that the team starts to have for both Travis and Gabe. The team members themselves have several quirks, that I would love to see exploited in the coming books.
Gabe & Audrey
Gabriel "Stonewall" Bristow was a Navy SEAL. A car accident forces him into early retirement along with his best friend Quinn, who also was in the accident. Quinn's opted to go into the private sector is trying to convince Gabe to join him as opposed to taking the office job his father "The Admiral" has secured him in DC.
Audrey Van Amee is a free-spirited artist living in Costa Rica. Her brother is all she has left after their parents had died. While on a Skype call to her brother, reminding him of her upcoming art show, he's kidnapped off the street from in front of his apartment.
Needless to say, Gabe takes the offer to join HumInt Consulting Inc's Hostage Recovery & Negotiations Team (HoRNeT, as the linguist proclaims it). His assembled team consists of men who are the best at what they do, but have plenty of issues. They buck authority & do not play well with others, which is especially bad since the first time they all meet face-to-face is when they are already wheels up on their first assignment. They are headed to Bogota Colombia to find and return Bryson Van Amee, American businessman & millionaire.
After Audrey battles through the shock and disbelief of what she's just witnessed, she attempts to find some US Agency that will help her track down & rescue her brother. When it looks like nobody is going to go, she cancels her art show & heads to Colombia herself.
Naturally, the HoRNeT team and Audrey collide and will have to work together to try and find her brother before it's too late.
But dealing with deadly guerrillas, crime lords, psychotic sadists, and one truly devious b**ch isn't easy when your unprepared team seems to be one step behind.
As the story unfolds, the team learns a bit of cohesiveness & begins working together more smoothly. Unwilling separation causes the lead characters to rely on each other more fully than if they'd been part of the larger whole. There are plenty of trials to overcome & plenty of action.
For a series premiere, this is a great book! You get plenty of sneak peeks at the other characters without them detracting from the main couple. There's a ton of action, which I loved. The sexual tension and eventual get-togethers were well plotted. Chemistry and dialogue were strong between all characters.
Overall, I'd give it a strong 4.5
