Secondly, I love suspenseful romance books and this one did not disappoint me. I'm knew to this whole "free book for a review" thing (basically thinking that these books may not be that great, but their free so i'll give it a shot). Then I got a little concerned because I don't do the paranormal thing either, but this book didn't have much of it in it at all. I am so happy that I gave chose to review this book. There were several different things going on at once that kept me super interested (i.e. sneaking some reading while at work), but it wasn't too much to confuse me.
I LOVE Sean MacKay!!!!! The Seal hero is so awesome that I fell in love with him. Cory was great, but there were parts that I didn't like, mostly the games of jealousy she was trying to play. Luckily there wasn't much so it didn't affect my view of the book too much. There were some things that seemed annoying about the fact that Cory had so many men trying to date her all at once and they wouldn't take "No" as an answer to reject a date.
Another thing about this book that I liked was that the author wrote the support characters in well and you couldn't help but love them too. It felt like I was right there in their family with them between all the jokes, love, and support described in the pages.
The thing that makes a good book for me is that it makes me have emotions while reading the book. Not only did this book have me holding my breath and almost in tears, but I was also laughing along with the jokes outloud (that got some strange looks at work). If you like suspenseful romance, then this book is definitely for you. I highly recommend it, especially if you love a good seal hottie!!
Navy SEAL Sean MacKay's teammate is murdered after stealing a deadly nerve-gas formula from Syrian terrorists. Naval Intelligence believes MacKay's teammate was a traitor and shipped the stolen formula to his sister in the states for safekeeping. MacKay is given orders to find the sister before the terrorists do and to retrieve the stolen formula at all costs.
Foreclosure looms for Cory Rigatero as she fights to keep her rustic resort near Mt. St. Helens afloat after her brother deserted her to join the SEAL teams. (Amazon blurb)
I could never imagine losing the last family member to dangerous missions and then to an official MIA shortly after the death of her father, on top of having to keep the family business afloat. Yet, those are the things that Cory needs to deal with on a daily basis to survive. Six years after her brother left, Cory receives a package three days before her birthday and then a mysterious stranger volunteers to work for next to nothing with the most electrifying and captivating blue eyes... I know the circumstances are horrifying, but the man, rrroooarrrr!!! Is there a sign up sheet for my very own SEAL?!? Readers can’t deny the tension between Cory and Mac – the fact that Mac is able to hide from Cory in plain sight for so long is baffling and at the same time our minds sees what it needs/wants to see. Written in such a way that my heart broke each time Blue was mentioned or Mac thought of past missions with his brother in arm or when Cory admitted she had no more tears to spare for her brother, this novel is heart wrenching and action packed, even filled with mystery as to who is the angel in this story.
**Received a copy in exchange for an honest review. Read and reviewed by Kathleen for Alpha Book Club**
Of course, nothing is ever simple, right? It seems MacKay once shared a night of passion with Cory, but then pulled a disappearing act, never to be seen or heard from again. So you can understand then why Cory, already growing through a horrible ordeal, isn’t too excited to see him nor feeling very much like trusting the Navy SEAL. Once it really registers with her that the terrorists were likely to trace her down for the aforementioned formula, she decides to give him a chance.
Cory is a strong woman, and despite going through such a tough time, she handles herself and things quite well. Sean (MacKay) is your stereotypical alpha hero, wanting to do everything he can to keep her safe. I can see it now - like two Rams butting heads. The they form an interesting couple, both being strong-willed, independent people. The book has plenty of suspense and mystery and it’s fast-paced from start to end. I loved it and ate it up. This is an excellent read for people who want a little suspense in their Contemporary Romance.
