Update - Matthew from Booker and Dax just reached out and is supposedly going to send me a new Searzall so I'm going to give it one more shot!
2nd Update - I never received the second Searzall and I just found the box containing the failed one so I figured I'd update this. This product sucks. It never worked as described, it's fragile and poorly made. I'm competent enough to know the difference between breaking something due to my inability to properly use an item and an item's lack of quality. This fits in that second category. I can't recommend this at all. Instead get a cast iron skillet and save yourself a bunch of money, plus you'll have a very useful tool which can be used for many other dishes. The Searzall is a piece of garbage... literally, it's sitting in my garbage as I write this. The only thing worse than the Searzall is their customer service. As a company, I can't see them lasting very long with an utter lack of follow through.
All of these positives notwithstanding, this method of searing is incredibly slow and tedious. If you can sear any other way, you're probably better off searing any other way. I'm not going to say the Searzall is over-hyped or too expensive, but all those Youtube cooking channels make it look a lot more fun than it is. This is in my kit as a tool that does a job I can't easily do with any other tool, but it's definitely no joy to use, and I avoid it as much as I can.

Well my torch top gave up the ghost, so I ordered a new 8000 and this to go with it.
Unfortunately I have not been able to directly test it. My blood test came back and my doc panicked again so I'm eating only sushi/sashimi for the next 3 months to cut 150-200 points off my cholesterol.. again.
On the other hand my wife is a great lover of the steaks I make and says that the cast iron finish is no longer needed as this is better.
I trust her with steaks as I do with everything in life, so 5 stars. No propane flavor on the steaks.
I should note that she has a great sense of smell as well as taste, unlike myself who couldn't taste the propane off the old torch. She is not a hyper taster (those people are amazing) but, unlike me, she can tell the difference between asphalt and vanilla ice cream in a blind taste test (IMHO both need more sriracha).

As you can see from the picture, the flame really only uses that part that is seen to be deformed
Also it became deformed after 2 uses (yes I followed the Instructions and I seasoned it)
You also need to keep it really close (almost touching) which is a bit annoying
Even by doing so it still only sears the centre where the flame is coming through. So you need to go back and forth to apply the centre of it to all the surface or else you won't get a proper sear

Anytime you're missing the char/browning you're looking for with your food, this thing takes care of without overcooking the protein. It disperses the otherwise focussed flame of the torch to essentially become a portable salamander broiler with higher precision. I use to it slightly char the top of my pizza and crisp up the salami on top if it's not looking 100%. Steak - check. Shortribs - check. Chicken - check. Fish - check. Prawns - check. This device has allowed me to take my food to the next level.
I use it almost everyday—it's that good. Would highly recommend to any serious cook.
Second, the little grub screw that you need to tighten has a tendency to fall off; if it does, it will render the Searzall unusable!
I managed to get the Searzall connected to a butane torch, set the air gap correctly, and fired it up with a big flame. It produced an absolutely awful stench as the detritus (oils and whatever else) from the manufacturing process burned off. This instructions should state that first ignition should be done outdoors with a gas mask on!
After all that drama, the heat output was not high enough to toast bread. It's going back!
In conclusion: if you have the right torch head and you're willing to deal with the fussiness of the connection (or simply leave it connected to the torch), then you'll be ready to give it a proper try. Don't forget to burn off the junk first (outdoors) or your steak will taste foul!
On the other hand you can use a butane torch like the awesome Blazer GT8000 Big Shot Butane Torch without a diffuser and get the job done with a little bit of finesse but a lot less drama.
