I liked Ms Bailey's use of fresh stories and examples in her writings. Every point was well illustrated and established. There was a good mix of personal stories, history, and current events. Her story during the financial crisis was very similar to mine so I could relate, and it was a good example of how a leader keeps on leading, She has a couple of good exercises in there that are thought provoking, as well. Also a touch of humor that lightens the mood when necessary.
If you are more on the liberal and/or non-religious side like I am, you may find some of Ms Bailey's opinions a little on the conservative side. However, it didn't dampen my opinion of the book. I got her point and I can make the necessary adjustments as I see fit in my life, if necessary. There were a couple of times she made comments along the lines that something worked for her, therefore it should work for everyone. That, I take issue with, so keep an eye out for that.
There were two parts that really spoke to me. One was when she talked about now mastering the attributes of SELF Centered Leadership would not be a journey, but rather an odyssey. It was going to be a lot more work than a journey, because an odyssey is "a long series of wanderings or adventures, especially when filled with notable experiences, hardships, etc." It makes a lot more sense to me now, just realizing that. The other part was on friendship. It made me realize I need to come up with a plan to be with my friends more often.
I enjoyed the book. It is a quick read, but one that I will go back to again, especially some parts that were especially meaningful to me. Like Ms Bailey says leadership begins on the inside. If you are a leader, want to be one, are being thrust into being one, start at the right place - with yourself. This book will give you a great start.
