Author Jason McDonald has been active on the Internet since 1994 and has taught SEO, AdWords, and Social Media since 2009 – online, at Stanford University Continuing Studies, at both AcademyX and the Bay Area Video Coalition in San Francisco, at workshops, and in corporate trainings across these United States. This is a VERY basic book for new site owners wanting to get an early and decent introduction to the world of SEO. As a site owner who has been in the industry more then 20 years and in four ventures this book brought me absolutely nothing. On a low watermark note Jason uses PageRank as a benchmark measure, something that has been depreciated officially for years by Google.

I've been a fan of his website, have attended a few webinars, and have learned a lot from his knowledge of SEO principles. I got this book to freshen up on some things because word on the street [and the author's] is that this year was a big year in "change" for SEO strategy. It isn't just about content keywords and back links anymore, but a fully integrated circle involving your website's footprint on the internet overall.

This book was just as I hoped it would be. It is not a "how-to" book full of assumed formulas and strategies, but instead a presentation of 1) the mindset you must have, 2) how to "keep up" as things are always changing and 3) is very clear that SEO is an ongoing experiment. At no point does the book ever claim or say, "okay, you're done. your site is now #1!". It's honest, up-front, and in the end, pretty simple.

I highly recommend this title to anyone whose small company/hobby relies heavily on internet traffic and exposure. I plan on utilizing this book often (already have tons of dog-ears in it) and will always keep up with the author's website's happenings and webinars. This guy really knows his stuff - and I've seen increase in my website's exposure over the last two years all thanks to him.

Again, I highly recommend this book to anyone whose business' success relies heavily on internet traffic to their website(s).

This book does a great job helping you do the work required for free SEO
I'm a big fan of the author... Jason not only creates these helpful low-cost books, but always stays on top of the ever changing world of SEO and has webinars and offers classes so you can learn the current 'art' of SEO.
The book takes you through step by step (7 of them) to SEO fitness in an easy to understand way.

My only complaint is that the many screen shot graphics are a bit fuzzy, making them hard to read.

SEO is not knew. However, like everything else in the technical world, new acronyms, new terms, new "names" are coined for the same old stuff every day. Which is why Jason McDonald is correct when he says that the basics of SEO are the same as they always have been.

Why buy this workbook? Because it's a cookbook for "doing" SEO. You can grab a bunch of ingredients and try to cook a souffle. With perseverance you might one day be invited to compete on Master Chef. However, unless you know what ingredients go into a souffle you will be wasting lots of money and throwing away tons of inedible creations.

I grew up with computers in the days of the mainframe. My father worked in the "military industrial complex". Eventually, I became a software engineer myself, built my own desktop computers down to the board level. I also established my own bulletin board system (BBS).

When the Internet came along, I was there. I did not invent it, but I read the industry journals and jumped on the bandwagon. SEO was not called SEO back then. I don't remember calling it anything in particular back then. It was just what one did to get the search engines to find and index your website pages.

This book, IMHO, is not just adequate or good but GREAT for several reasons. Mr. McDonald is encouraging. He knows that SEO is something everyone can do. He's entertaining and makes you laugh and relax your way through the process of "doing" SEO; it's virtually impossible to make progress in any endeavor when you are tied up in knots, and feeling overwhelmed, helpless and inadequate to the task. In addition to all the information in the book itself, he has links to the worksheets on his website.

Jason McDonald has proved himself to be the unchallenged front runner in the field of Search Engine Optimization.

Fortunate enough to own several of his previous works, and having attended his online workshops, my business as a content writer for SEO purposes has reaped the benefit of Jason's expertise.

This volume is written in plain, easy-to-follow English. Every concept is explained with crystal clarity. You need not be a techie to deploy the tips and tricks found in this delightfully informative volume. Jason's humor makes the read all the more enjoyable, even as he enlightens the reader on typically dry computing concepts.

The To Do points, highlighted in red text, provide clear guide posts that will lead you to SEO excellence. You will see examples of each point and thus will be able to apply the information right away.

I am looking forward to his 2016 webinars and will be utilizing the many things I have learned from reading this workbook to increase my value to my SEO clients.
