About the Author

I bought this book on the strength of its Amazon reviews. When I got to the end of the book, I found a paragraph that explains why this book has so many good reviews: The author actually extorts Amazon reviews from the reader right in the book!

In a carefully-worded final paragraph, he says "If you feel this book has provided value, please visit Amazon.com and write a review". He says "I will provide anyone who completes a review with access to my SEO training videos (a $297 value) absolutely FREE! Simply send a link to your review once posted on Amazon.com to <his email address>."

That is incredibly scummy. The guy asks for Amazon reviews "if you feel this book has provided value". Technically he didn't say he wouldn't give you the "$297 value" if you wrote a bad review, but since you have to send your review to the author before he can approve it, he knows that very few people will give him a bad review.

What's worse is that the book spends so much time promoting his website. He references his website all throughout the text, and he actually printed his web address as a footer on each and every page of the book! When you go to that web address, it tries to sell you training, consulting and tools. Unbelievable!

This kind of thing is the reason the public craves authenticity today. We have all dealt with BS telemarketers and used car salesmen who "have to run your offer past the manager" and we're tired of it. Nobody likes a swindler claiming they are giving you a FREE "$297 value". We know you just made that number up. You aren't fooling anybody.

Look, I already bought the book. Stop selling now and just give me the information that I paid for.

This book helped me to understand more about SEO, and I applied a lot of the information to my own website. It's worth the Kindle price. However, as another reviewer stated, I was a little put off by the "used car salesman" tone, and I grew tired of how often the author praised himself for his own knowledge and skills. I conducted some of the searches, just as he instructed in the book, and he's no long the number one search result on Google. Oops.

Also, I wonder who edited his book... there are more typos and language errors than average, which takes away from his credibility and his message, no matter how successful he is in real life. Also, some of the URLs he includes no longer work, so you have to do some digging to find the information online if it still exists. That's a huge no-no in publishing: don't publish specific URLs in books. They change!

Bottom line: I got most of the information I wanted. I was just surprised that a marketing guru would put out such a poorly written and edited book.

My office was just approached by an SEO company that charges $930-$3270 per month to implement SEO strategies for 9-24 keywords respectively. This book provided valuable information for use in the vetting of their proposal. I even contacted the author this morning with a question via his website - and to my surprise - he answered within moments.

If you want to get up-to-speed on SEO in just a few hours, this is a great and inexpensive resource to start. Highly recommended!

I am about to begin a career as a digital marketer and needed a book to brief me on the likes of SEO and the industry in general. While this book filled my head with valuable knowledge, it leaves somewhat of a gap for the more intermidate rubric. The intro is painfully repetitive and should likely be edited in the next edition.

This is a quick and easy read. I would say it is geared to the small business owner who is seeking to get a handle on basic SEO principles. If that's you read away and you won't be disappointed. More seasoned SEO veterans will find the information very basic, but that does not make the information any less useful for those just starting out.

Even as an experienced reader, I came away with some fresh ideas I can put to use. At the very least it makes a nice reinforcement to the the ideas I already practice.

Found this yesterday and have read up to about page 40 in it. I understand pros may find it too simple, but for someone like my wife and I it's been a jewel of a find. We have a small school, with a small website; for months people have been talking about SEO with me but I have to admit, I really didn't get it. Not bragging here, I have a B.S. in computer science, but it's from 1990 and all this strange SEO, keyword, meta tag thing just seemed to be escaping me...again, until yesterday afternoon.

I began reading this, and within half an hour things that didn't make sense, suddenly did. Yesterday I rewrote our site description (realizing how boring, dull, and virtually useless "Homepage of Ruby Christian School" was), and also figured out how to get a site map created and affixed to Google. Within minutes our page views (and yes I realize part of this are bot programs, more than likely) jumped from 75 to 325, and more importantly our unique visitors hit a 30 point jump from 65 to 95. And I've only fixed two elements!

Like I said, it's fantastic for newbies. I will play my judgement close to the vest and only give it four stars as I haven't finished reading it yet, but I had to post here and give thanks to the author for talking to me about this at a level that I could understand WITHOUT making me feel that I was being talked "down to." Marvelous effort!
