I heard that sound the first time I used this. I can't say I was surprised. I will go graphite next time.

EDIT: I should add (because I don't think I made it clear) this thing cracked because of the way I was using it not because it was defective. I had a feeling that a ceramic crucible would be a one-time use, in my application, and I was right. With standard use (and even heating) this should work just fine, and last a little longer than mine did.
