First, let’s just get it out there...this bookcover is hot...and being able to see Shades as I read the book, didn’t hurt, but this book is better for o many reasons.....❤️🌼🔥
We love second chance romances, and this was one of the best I’ve read...plus this book gave us more time with Ghost, Blood and Undertaker, so I am excited to read their books....But the relationship between Shades and Skyler and the the discovery of who her father is was such a fantastic twist to the story...and the reason for Skyler’s constant “flight” and not “fight” reaction to any trouble is understandable, but Nicole James made Skyler smart enough to listen to reason when that reaction kicked in....
We can see and feel real love between Shades and Skyler, and I loved this book...so much....❤️🌼🔥
Call it kismet, love or lust at first sight but that is exactly what happens in Shades, the Outlaw series book 3. Author Nicole James sets this exceptional MC Romance in Birmingham, Sweet Home Alabama and seamlessly integrates characters from her previous books into this series. The development of the new storyline and the continuation of previous ones is a work of pure genius. As you read this novel you will feel as though you are submerged into the life of the Evil Dead MC. Skylar and Shades story of young love lost and then found again is beautifully written, with unforeseen twist and turns that leaves the reader wanting more.
Like is not easy as a prospect to the Evil Dead MC, but is what Shades has always wanted! That is until he met Skylar. He knew that he should keep her at arm’s length, but something about her will not let him. When he is given an ultimatum, Skylar or the club, he was not prepared for her to just disappear. After ten years of emptiness seeing her again, just reinforces the fact that she is his and his alone! Is it possible for them to turn time back, and reclaim what was lost? There are forces that are still working against them being together again and it will take everything he has to keep her where she belongs, at his side.
Seeing Shades again was the last thing that Skylar wanted, but there he was. Standing in front of her was Shades wearing his VP patch showing her that he had gone on with his dreams when she disappeared. Time changes a lot of things but not the connection she had always felt with him. He broke her heart and now wants to be let back into her life. There are forces coming after her that can destroy not only her, but also Shades and his club. Can she take a chance? Read this MC Romance and find out what happens with Skylar and Shades. You will not be disappointed that you added this novel to your library, I know that I wasn’t!
I loved the fact that Skylar was strong, independent and could and did take care of herself. I loved the way Shade refused to give up on their relationship and how honest he was with her. They had steamy love scenes but what I really LOVED about this book was the romance. So many romance novels focus on the sex, often at the expense of the plot. The good news about these books is that authors realize that women like erotica too (aka 'soft porn'), which is quite liberating. But to have explicit sex scenes without the romantic storyline gets boring really quickly. I can't speak for all women and maybe I feel this way because I'm older than the 'typical' romance genre reader but I NEED A PLAUSIBLE PLOT & this series delivers that in spades!
I don't want to give anything away but this book has everything you need in a good romance novel: sexy, handsome, but flawed hero, strong, independent heroine, hero and heroine who are vulnerable but not ridiculous in their fear of being vulnerable (some characters are so relationship phobic, you want to strangle them or tell the other partner: 'forget them; they're not worth all the anguish), steamy love scenes, some mystery, elements of surprise and of course, the long sought after HEA.
What makes this book, really the series, stand out is an awesome set of secondary characters. I actually want there to be future books about these characters. The author has a good balance between letting you know just enough about the characters so you are hungry for more, but not allowing the subplots about the secondary characters to overwhelm or distract from the main characters.
After reading Crash, I wanted to know more about Wolf, Green and Mack. After reading this book, I want to know more about Ghost, who was TOO HILARIOUS, Blood (now that would be a simmering book!) and Undertaker.
I can't wait to read the next book about Wolf. My only concern, which will probably sound crazy is to tell the author that while I can't wait to devour all the upcoming books in this series, don't write them too quickly. I'm sure there is a lot of pressure from fans, agents, publicists, etc. to churn out these book quickly, but authors often do that at the expense of quality. Trust me, your books are worth the wait. I'd rather wait for a great book than read a quickly thrown together book.
Thanks for a most enjoyable read!

However, going back to the book in question... Shades is a brilliantly written hero. All alpha badass but so completely in love with Skylar. The balance is perfect. I felt for Sky with her history and her character grew on me through the book. I would have liked to see her make a female friend. After Letty no one else made that connection with her. Maybe Tink in the future? The humour and banter in this book sealed the deal for me. Great writing. I love the way the author describes their body language so effortlessly. It sets the picture in your mind brilliantly. I feel like I'm on a journey with this author and het brilliant characters. You can see her writing style changing and evolving with each book. They are all fantastic reads . For me, this is the best so far. Drama. passion, steam factor, humour, deep abiding bonds and perfect ass kicking of the baddies. The only thing I wanted to see that I didn't was for Ashley to be dealt with more. Maybe that's for another book. Highly recommended to any MC addict like me!
