Product Description

Reader usually works right out of box but sometimes you will need more information to get it working. Here is some Important and helpful tips:
Does not work with iPhones, iTouch, stick pro duo, Flash drives, HC SD cards, PNY, Sony Memory Cards
Only designed to recognize JPEG files. DOES NOT WORK FOR VIDEOS
Works with SD Cards (under 24gb), Micro SD Cards and USB Plugs

Make sure the USB drive is formatted as FAT32 - Create a folder in the root of the USB drive called DCIM - Make sure the file names of the pics are exactly 8 alphanumeric characters long plus a supported extension - File names must be letters and numbers ONLY - Make sure all pics end in the .jpg extension (NOT .jpeg) - (if attempting to transfer videos Make sure the videos are of a supported type: .mp4, .m4v and maybe .mov. This may work but generally videos are NOT compatible) - Folders inside the DCIM folder can be used if they are 8 alphanumeric characters long - The USB drive must use 20mA or LESS power or it will not work. - You can get USB drives that use more than 20mA of power to work by using a wall powered USB hub

The filenames MUST start with at least DSC and be only eight characters total without any spaces. Using all caps or all lower case for "dsc" or ".jpg" did not matter. The other 5 characters after the DSC did not matter, but you could not use a space. Example: DSCNNuge.JPG; dscnNuge.jpg; dscnnuge.JPG; DSC0nuge.jpg would all work.

This is the second Sharkk item I bought and once again I am very satisfied with the price and quality.
Item came well packaged. Plugged it right into my iPad mini, put my SD card in, a error message popped up saying device is not compatible but I just hit ok and ignored it and my pics came right up. Works perfectly. Highly recommended.

Quick upload, quality packaging. My iPad 4th gen picked it up instantly and uploaded my pics from SD and Micro Sd quickly. An efficient little product! I'm satisfied! Great for the price!

This works as a way to get photos from an SD card into an ipad but you gotta be patient.

The photos must be in a folder named DCIM on the SD card. Cameras generally create this automatically but if you use a card that has been used in your computer, you probably have other folders from which the photos will not be accessible. If your SD card does not have the DCIM folder you will see nothing.

I believe the device also requires that the pictures have an eight character or less file names. My Canon camera creates both the DCIM folder and eight char file names.

The device has a tiny switch which must be in the SD card position if you are using it to read a card rather than for USB input.

I inserted the device into the lightning port and got the "Device not Supported" message but just tapped thru it and the thumbnails popped up on the screen. Tapping the thumbnail does not open the picture for viewing but selects it for transfer to the ipad.

This item is cost effective but not particularly convenient.

I had an IPAD2 but bought an IPAD3 because of its higher definition camera. I had a number of photos on the IPAD2 that I wanted to transfer to the IPAD3 and eventually to my PC to free up IPAD2 memory. It wasn't exactly clear how this device would make this happen, but, it turned out to be incredibly simple.

You plug this device into the IPAD3 which has the newer, smaller, port connector. Then, you remove the IPAD2 charging cable from the AC plug exposing a USB connector which mates with this device. Plug the other end into the IPAD2 port. With the IPADs both on, the IPAD3, without any action, displayed all of the photos on the IPAD2 and asked "import some or all". I said ALL and photos and videos were imported to the IPAD3 and VERY QUICKLY as well.

At the completion of the import, a message asked if I wanted to delete the photos from the IPAD2 (the source) and I said no because it remained to been seen whether the import ACTUALLY worked. In the middle of this question, a message popped up that said "this is an unsupported device" as noted by another reviewer. I just said "cancel" and unplugged the two IPADs. Looking at the imported photos, all looked okay although they looked "grainier" than I recalled. But, this is probably due to a combination of the lower resolution camera in the IPAD2 and the higher screen resolution of the IPAD3. No error messages.

Over the years I've purchased a number of electronic devices like this one which were cheap enough but many lacked clear instructions or had other interface problems. In this case, the instructions are a little spare and maybe a little confusing, but the device worked perfectly! This may be the only time I use it because it doesn't look like it can "export" from an IPAD to a PC or memory card.

My wife and I took this with us to Italy so that we could back up all of our pictures from the camera to her iPad Mini. It never had a problem transferring pictures from the SD card to the iPad, although it did have trouble erasing the SD card post-transfer. No matter, we just erased the pictures using the camera. This was definitely worth having, as it kept us from needing to bring a laptop on vacation.

I have found in the past that a lot of these aftermarket Ipad adapters don't always work very well if at all.
But, the Shark Lightning 3-in-1 Card reader camera kit is an excellent product. I inserted a 16gb mem chip from my digital camera and my photos appeared on the ipad4 within seconds ready for download. Bear in mind that I had a lot of photos and videos on the chip. All I had to do was touch the photo or video I wanted to download and they were quickly added to my photo album. Very happy with this device. It works great, seems to be well made and it's very reasonably priced.

iPad would not recognize the device after using it once. Followed the instructions, selecting "OK" when message indicates it's not compatible. Tried different card, no dice. At least I knew it worked...once. Plan to send it back and start over. We'll see if results are any different. Other than that, not sure I have anything good to say, so I'll stop here.

I have tried other similar products. This one is much sturdier! Also the short cable makes a huge difference. There is no need to remove the iPad case in order to attach the cable. I tried all the functionality that the device is supposed to do, and everything works great. I highly recommend this one over the other choices.
