The author delivers a heroine with a quick temper, smart mouth and snarky sense of humor who suddenly finds herself immersed in a secret world for which she is wholly unprepared. Despite her many failings and flaws, I was entirely captivated by Mackenzie's sense of honor, loyalty, and strong desire to help the downtrodden and overcome inequality. Despite all of the danger, intrigue, death and destruction, there is TONS of sizzle in this story. Thanks in large part to the two sexy Lycan males who stir Mackenzie’s heart, inflame her libido, and outrage her sense of fairness at every turn. Despite their many flaws, these males constantly redeem themselves (to varying degrees) because of their devotion to the heroine.
Having said all of that, let me warn you this series will make the reader FEEL. And not all of those feelings are pleasant or enjoyable. I often found myself feeling frustrated, disgusted, outraged, heartbroken and horrified. But I also often found myself chuckling, pleasantly surprised, eager to see what will happen next, and cheering over the victories – large and small.
I will say that while I easily give book one 4.5 stars, I felt that books two and three were better. So, if you find yourself struggling to get through book one at times, hang in there. It’s worth the work. I’ve added this series to my WATCH LIST, meaning I will be watching for book four – impatiently.
OMG!! I have spent the last three nights devouring this series!!! I absolutely love this story and Kenze is one sarcastic badass wolf...I LOVE IT!! I just finished Book 3 and was under the impression it was the last book....as I'm reading the final pages, I am like...HELL NO...it can't end like this!!!! Thankfully, the author's note shares that there will be a 4th book...HALAFREAKINGLEUIGH!!! All I can say is this story is EXACTLY what I needed to ease my book funk. Love Triangles....check! Badass supernaturals with a sarcastic female wolf...check! Lies, betrayalans loss....check! Secrets and suspense....check! EPIC STORY...check!! I will leave on a final note...BASH!!! Highly recommend.
First of all Bravo!! If you have read the shifter genre as of late, the majority of it filled with adult situations and sex1ness. Not that there is anything wrong with that I enjoy a good erotic tale (no pun intended). BUT Karina Espinosa managed to show a display of alpha strength when it comes to her lead character as Kenz learns her way through her new life.
The premise of the book is powerful. A lone wolf not knowing anything about herself or the lore runs into her area's pack and defies the odds. Defies being a LUNA and defies bending to their will.
She is overcome by her wolf's urges of course but she does not succumb to them. To mate, to give in to violence and to protect, but not once does does she give into her urge to mate. Its like giving up her power. IT SIGNIFIES HER STRENGTH!! AND is a great build up to Karina's next book.
You see... not every shifter needs to succumb to their wolf and it's refreshing that she didnt. It leads more to the storeyline. She is obviously a strong anomaly and her strength to hold off a suiter or a sexual partner leads me to believe she is stronger than even the strongest alpha.
Now don't get me wrong this isn't a fairy tale! Kenz has a mouth of a sailor and short temper so I really liked her. She and I could be friends! Speaking of friends, Amy, her best human friend is just downright #AwesomeSauce.
I am sad at the end BUT it reminds me of Jeaniene Frost Dark Huntress series and I just know it will come out just as well!!!
Karina has a strong voice and her character development is on point!! I can't wait for the next installment!!
5 Stars and a tip of the Nerd Girl hat to you my dear!!

There’s a lot of suspense and action in the first of the series and as one problem is dealt, many more open. If you’re a fan of Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole’s heroines then, this is just for you!
