-For every half hour I spend on this machine, twenty minutes of it is rethreading. The thread jumps out of multiple tracks when running, and rethreading is an absolute nightmare. Parts of the rethreading process are recessed inside the case where you can't see, so getting the thread seated is a matter of pulling and hoping it catches. Plus, the instructions leave out critical parts, like how the second looper thread lays with the first looper, and so on. Areas you can't reach are behind obstructions so you can't get the tweezers back there either. Good luck rethreading at all if you're left handed.
-The parts are cheap. I work with 5.3oz medium weight linen. If I put more than 3 layers through at a time, the blade breaks. I run six layers through other models with no problem.
-The suction cups on bottom don't work and the serger travels all over the table. I have to hold the top with one hand and feed fabric with the other.
-The troubleshooting guide is laughably unhelpful. Out of the box, it wouldn't do a 4 thread stitch at all and it took a Youtube video from someone else with the same model showing how to set the tensions right.
Seriously, spend more and get a higher quality model. I've seen the difference and it's worth it.
As far as re-threading, try to follow what other videos show. You just attach to a previous threaded spool, turning the tension to zero, use manual wheel turn + stop before you get to the needles.
From all the reviews + every video, I could not see before I bought it exactly what it came with it for others who wondered the same question. Everything seems to be there.
I've done several tests on it for sewing. Obviously the suggested tensions are just guidelines.
Sergers are not intuitive. It's going to take more time to figure this out for the tension to be correct. You have to read the paper manual that comes with it to figure out the guidelines for the sewing tensions per thread/spool. It does come with a DVD + I have not watched it yet since I just set it up this evening. I watched many YouTube + Singer online videos before I bought it. The manual reads as technical information. Sigh. Just like all Serger manuals.
I have used sewing machines for many years. Sewing is not new for me + I've used a serger before - lightly.
Sergers certainly are a different bird to figure out.
The other reviews of this machine are scary to read. I am hoping I made a good choice. It certainly is affordable. Time will tell.
I've always been a fan of the brand Singer. I just bought another very nice Singer sewing machine that was not bottom of the line.
This serger, tho it has mixed reviews, is out of the box as it states in the basic information.
I have done quite a few tests serging with it + change the tensions as per the manual + it runs as to be expected.
I don't know why people say it is noisy because every serger I've ever seen or used is noisy.
My only complaint is to take the free arm off is not easy at all. Each time I tried to take it off it takes me quite a few tries. I don't plan to take it on/off much anyway.
Re other return reviews -whenever you order anything from anyone, you should always take it out the box + check it out before the warranty or the return period is over. If you wait beyond that then you really don't have reason to complain. That's why they give you a set time.
I plan to make use of this serger over the next week, for gifts, clothes + house old items.
I did pick up the 3-year Amazon warranty. It was not very much money + I figured it was a good safeguard.
My wife sews for charity and has a project that has been waiting for a serger and this Singer machine is useless. Our only option is to purchase a different unit. Needless to say I am more than a bit disappointed.
My advice... Don't buy serger like this from Amazon. Go to your local sewing store and buy your product there. They will likely be able to help you get started and will probably have a more liberal return policy should something be wrong with the product.

My previous serger was a Janome and to be honest it runs the same, sounds the same and threads the same.
I like that on this particular model you can raise the spool bar for the threads, whereas my previous Janome couldn't, so it's a nice feature.
It would be nice to have a collector of some sort for off cuts instead of them landing on your work surface but that's minor.
The free arm is a wonderful feature to make sewing cuffs a breeze. It's small enough to sew a childs sleeve/leg cuff.
As with my janome, this machine is capable of a single straight stitch using 1 thread, or using any number up-to 4 threads.
At full speed the motor is no more noisier than my previous janome.
The feet on the bottom have a sturdy suction so it keeps the serger in place if you have your foot down while sewing.
As for the light, I think it needs to shine down more where the twin needles are, but that may just be me.
Overall - it's a great serger. It worked faultlessly straight out the box with me not having to adjust anything and that was sewing cotton, flannel and chenille as per the pic.
I gave it 2 stars because it's been working fine with woven fabric, and it's not difficult to thread or set up the tension.
