There's this beautiful sweet little girl - Scarlet Valentine, just about to blossom when her Daddy - Richard Valentine, rapes her. Not only does he rape her, he beats her into keeping quiet and then rapes her EVERYDAY and imprisons her in his trap , beating her, scaring her into silence. Even her Mom Wendy, and sister Amber disbelieve her.
After she's been raped into pregnancy , her subsequent abortion jolts her into running away from home.
She meets Reid Marks, another predator of sorts. He helps her plan her revenge , while torturing her with unrequited love.
Then comes Stuart , her childhood friend who's very sweet, accepting and generous in his love for her.
Here's the dilemma, she loves all three of them in her own twisted way.
The Daddy who raped her , abused her.
Reid who dominated her, yet accepted her , flaws and all.
Stuart whom she felt safe and untainted with , who accepted her.
The writing is pure perfection, it's a thrilling, tabboo-est read ever , and it's so wrong that I'm almost guilty of being aroused by it. The plotting, vendettas, the innocent victims are all packaged in a fantastic tale of Revenge by a beautiful poisonous Siren .
It's a truly, truly twisted , messed-in-the-head story that requires an equally twisted and sick reader to enjoy .
I fell in love with all three, Richard, Reid and Stuart too !!
It's official- I'm going to HELL !!!
I don't think a book has ever left me more angry, to be honest. And I guess props to the author for making me invested enough.
The first twenty percent of this story was hard to get through. There was nothing to look forward to; no defined plot, or romances or hints at what was going to happen. I thought for sure it was going to be a dnf for me because I struggled hard with the beginning.
You guys, Scarlett - she's one messed up girl. No ifs or ands about it. She's sick and twisted and does unspeakable things. I was literally nauseated at some points in the story. And, maybe that was because of the pseudo-incest? Yep, probably that. And to be honest here, if I see a stepbrother story - I'm all over that. But this was with her father figure, who raped her her entire adolescence. But she gets this sick sort of enjoyment by going back to him again and again. And I'm telling you it was like the entire story that she had this relationship with her step-father. It takes a lot to really disturb me, and it wasn't so much that I was going to faint from having tender sensibilities that she was having sex with her step-father *gasp* it was that she continually had sex with her rapist and abuser. That's what disgusted me.
Throw in Reid. The "hero" or one of them I should mention. He's a dom, and also Scarlett's pimp in a way that he tells her who to have sex with and video records it so they can blackmail them to earn money to buy a club. Didn't like him, but towards the end I was beginning to think he was the only one who could handle the eternally damaged Scarlett.
Stuart. Sweet Stuart. I liked you. Thought you were sweet. Way too sweet for Scarlett.
Ugh. I just can't.
This book left me with no happy resolution but had a dark ending that kind of thrilled me, but didn't leave me feeling that complete HEA that I usually strive for.
While I screamed "I hate this book" really loud after reading the last page, it definitely got a reaction out of me, and it was a brave and probably most realistic ending. And I always love a book that can really move me whether the emotion be hate or love.
A truly dark story, with a dark conclusion. You won't be coming out of this one smiling.
Yup! This was one hell of a ride I just went on. My first book by Roberts and what a book! Siren was dark and deeply twisted but I was entertained from start to finish. I knew there was a warning before reading, that it was a dark story with triggers, but I enjoy being challenged and repulsed at the same time. And that I certainly was.
The story was crazy and wicked. I won't go into details too much cause this story has to be experienced. Scarlet was a sexy siren who was scarred and broken beyond repair by the abuse she went through as a child. That's why I enjoy dark reads because there's almost a psychological aspect to the story and I like diving into it while reading. Scarlet definitely became twisted and how she changed after her abuse was interesting and also the reason for this story. Her plan for revenge and how she carried it out was insane and yet again I couldn't stop reading. Her thirst for it was so strong that she wouldn't stop at nothing. How far fetched it would be.
There were three men in her life and they all had a part of her. Though two of the men had a stronger and more powerful hold over her. She claimed to be a cold hearted but behind that tough exterior, hid a young teenage girl wanted to be loved and acknowledged. Yes, Scarlet did some inexplicable things but at no point did I hate her or was disgusted by her. She was just to damaged and broken.
Even though some of the scenes were deeply twisted and horrific, I also have to admit that some were also very hot. Jaimie Roberts created a different and clever story and her writing was flawlessly addictive. She pushed my buttons but that's what I like in a book. To be challenged. She's definitely on my radar now.
