There's this beautiful sweet little girl - Scarlet Valentine, just about to blossom when her Daddy - Richard Valentine, rapes her. Not only does he rape her, he beats her into keeping quiet and then rapes her EVERYDAY and imprisons her in his trap , beating her, scaring her into silence. Even her Mom Wendy, and sister Amber disbelieve her.
After she's been raped into pregnancy , her subsequent abortion jolts her into running away from home.
She meets Reid Marks, another predator of sorts. He helps her plan her revenge , while torturing her with unrequited love.
Then comes Stuart , her childhood friend who's very sweet, accepting and generous in his love for her.
Here's the dilemma, she loves all three of them in her own twisted way.
The Daddy who raped her , abused her.
Reid who dominated her, yet accepted her , flaws and all.
Stuart whom she felt safe and untainted with , who accepted her.
The writing is pure perfection, it's a thrilling, tabboo-est read ever , and it's so wrong that I'm almost guilty of being aroused by it. The plotting, vendettas, the innocent victims are all packaged in a fantastic tale of Revenge by a beautiful poisonous Siren .
It's a truly, truly twisted , messed-in-the-head story that requires an equally twisted and sick reader to enjoy .
I fell in love with all three, Richard, Reid and Stuart too !!
It's official- I'm going to HELL !!!
The rest is my opinion of Siren and the characters so it may include spoilers so warning; don't read it further if you don't want any spoilers.
Scarlet: I cheered for her all the way. She even made me like all the 3 men at some point (Well done, Jaimie!!)
Stuart: what a sweet heart!!! I heart him!!! I wanted him to get his HEA.
Reid: started OK and was likeable but dang it, the ending was like wtf. Seriously, he can't be the same as his sperm donor.!.!
Richard: hated what he did to Scarlet but I will admit, the sex scenes in the book between an adult Scarlet seeking revenge with Richard were steamy.
I know Siren is mention as a book that was not going to end in HEA and I'm OK with that but the "ending" of Siren wasn't an ending. It just had me seeking more (more answers and reactions to certain things). I think Siren needs a book 2.
I normally don't read books that have child abuse in them, and I normally don't care for books where the heroine is a scathing, malicious tramp, but I could not put this one down. Page after page, I was sucked in, and I'm giving it five stars because I think that's true talent--to take topics I normally hate and still have me riveted.
I'll admit I was pissed about the ending--almost dropping stars, write a rant of a review pissed--but the more I thought about it, the more I realized that if Roberts had written it any other way, I would've thought it was an easy HEA cop out. It's definitely not going to be popular, but I applaud her for writing it the way she did.
