Huge disappointment

I was disappointed with these flying lanterns. We have been using flying lanterns for many years, since we live near the beach and set them off for special occasions. We have been trying to use these for about a month and have waited patiently for the perfect weather condition to do it. My 11 month old son had passed away recently, and we wanted to set these off in honor of him for his 3rd month anniversary. We had spent some time writing messages on the lanterns and I'm so upset that the lanterns did not work. We have done many lanterns in the past and have never run into issues before. What a huge disappointment. These lanterns were not getting filled with hot air no matter how long we waited. We were persistent and went through the whole pack. I wanted to cry the entire time out of pure frustration. The candles were made out of heavy wax, and you have to attach them on yourself my piercing them with a knife or key, and then looping it on by attaching it to the wire of the paper lantern, which did not look biodegradable. This made it very inconvenient, time consuming, and messy. I had wax stuck all over my hands. After spending all that time attaching the waxed fuel, it must have been too heavy, because 11 out of 14 of them would not fly. It was as though the heavy wax weighed it down or just poorly designed. The ones that did fly, did not go very far... a few feet at most. Just terrible. I will probably go back to purchasing the ones I have used in the past that have a cardboard fuel and larger cavity. Don't waste your money on this.

Beautiful! The wax square is a little hard to catch fire but once it does it's great. Make sure to fully open before using.

We used them for my niece's sweet 16 party. They loved them! They all arrived on time and in great condition. We did rip 1 while lighting but it still worked great.

Almost lit the neighbor's roof on fire on the first "test" flight! Be sure to do this on a non-windy and maybe recently wet night and neighbors are asleep. We wrote some wishes on them before setting them aloft just as the sun was setting. It was majestic, it was as if we had been transported to a scene out of the kids movie Mulan. I feel as if I just may see a live unicorn and hunting falcon to be awaiting my commands in the morning.

No unicorn or falcon to be found, same for my kids' wishes. Still 5 stars because maybe I didn't do it right or we didn't truly believe in the "magic."

Was very disappointed in this product

Was very disappointed in this product. Only 2 out of the first 8 that we tried lifted off. 3 had holes, 2 never took flight and landed on the Lake, and 1 just ripped as we were trying to open it. We were doing this on Christmas day as a family wishes lantern and it was a bust. I will never buy these again. My brother bought some 2 years ago from somewhere else and they worked perfectly, so check around!

I bought these for a last minute memorial for the anniversary of my mother's death. Only two came ripped. However, one burned a hole in itself and still floated! SO, don't throw them away if they have a tear---they still might work! Open very carefully and place a piece of tape over tears if concerned. All of the ones we tried floated very well. One person needed to hold the top while the other one lit. Once we got the hang of it, it was simple. They were a beautiful tribute. The other packages were much more expensive-- this was well worth the price. Will buy again!

A bit heavier than others I've used, so they take a few minutes before they lift off--but they work!

Definitely a fun date idea. I've used others before that were a bit lighter, and those ones worked a bit better. When you light the fuel source you have to wait a few minutes for the air inside the lantern to heat up and expand before it's light enough for the thing to float away. These ones are kind of big, so you'll be waiting for what seems like quite a while before they'll finally lift up out of your hands.

On the flip side, these come in different colors and even a couple different fun shapes, so that's an up side. They work though, and that's the important thing.

Not the best I've used.

This were OK. We had some success and some failures. We have used sky lanterns that we have bought at fireworks stores and never had a problems before. With these the tissue paper was much delicate and just unfolding them some tore. It was like the paper was stuck together so there was no way around tearing them. Unlike the ones we had used previously, these required that you attach the fuel cell. Normally the part you light looks like two pieces of cardboard that is treated with something to make them burn slowly. With these it looked like small squares of wax that you attached to the wire. They burned even slower and took a while before they would lift off. Once they filled with hot air they flew fine. I probably won't buy these again.

Tried on land, the beach, it just didn't want to work which is sad because we bought for my mothers passing anniversary for the next few years..
