OC Engine 2 ‘Sky's the Limit'
OC Engine has been beefed up for MSI Z170 motherboards. This external clock generator gives you even more freedom to achieve the absolute maximum overclock for your setup. OC Engine 2 also offers lower jitter and lower power consumption resulting in even higher stability under extreme conditions.
Heavy Plated Heatsink Design
The Dragon Heatsink, featuring the famous MSI GAMING dragon, confirms you are dealing with a genuine GAMING motherboard. GAMING on the inside, GAMING on the outside. Attention to detail, from red and black look & feel to PCB printing, make the next generation MSI GAMING motherboards stand out once again.
Multi GPU Support
This motherboard supports SLI / CrossFire. Optimal PCI-Express slot placement allows for better fitting and airflow. That way, you can enjoy the best graphics at the highest framerate jumping from your screen when running an NVIDIA SLI or AMD CrossFire setup.
With traditional memory design the memory signals are often distorted by electromagnetic signals from other components, making the system perform slower or become unstable. MSI introduces DDR4 Boost technology with optimized traces and fully isolated memory circuitry. This design ensures the memory signals stay pure for optimal performance and stability.
Audio Boost 3
With Audio Boost 3, powered by Nahimic Sound Technology, we're delivering the highest sound quality through the use of premium quality audio components. That way, you can enjoy breathtaking, crystal clear sound and music through 8-channel HD Audio or high independence headphones and truly dominate the game.

I installed a I7-6700K - 4 thread - 8 core processor and it has been working flawlessly since I bought it. I transitioned out of my standable HP desktop and moved the drives over that had Windows 10 already installed. I have 4x8GB DDR4 Corsair DIMM 2333MHz sticks installed, and I have no issues there. I am using a Corsair H100i v2 and have 4 fans installed, 2 on the radiator and one in the back and front, and the case stays between 30-35C idled and 40-43C in game. The case stays cool. I have a 1060 6GB VR ready as my main card, and an radeon 360 as my secondary.
I installed a USB PCI x16 card in that has USB 3.0 compatibility so I can never run out of USB slots, and all my hardware is powered by a 1000w supply. It stays really cool, is completely stable. I got an SSD when I was upgrading and moved over my Windows image, and now the boot time versus my HDD is incredible. Takes about 10 seconds to load now versus waiting 45 seconds.
All my games run between 60-120fps. Read and Write speeds are as expected with my HDDs. I cannot wait to get M2s and try them out.
All and all, this motherboard has served its purpose for the past two years, and I can see it going another 5 years.
My motherboard started to FAIL, seems there is a FR*** problem with this motherboard, there is a SLOW SWITCH that will throttle your CPU so you can overclocked it under hidrogen or something like that.. well. Seems that the physical switch that enable or disable that is know to auto activate, even if the switch is on OFF mode. Nedersay to fix it i need to download a program to force my cpu to work even under unsafe levels so i can bypass the dumb switch on the motherboard.
I tried to RMA it, but they want to charge me both shippings. SO i am stuck with this crap
Has red LED, a LED display to know the errors it can have or temps, has a start, reset button on it.. What else you want? Style? check, nice AIo? Check.
Plenty of ports, helps me be future proof for SLI in 2 years.
None so far :)
Update on con: the USB fast charging only works on Apple products.
Support is a black hole if copy/paste answers that take a week to respond.
Love the board still. But the support leave me to find another for future purchases.
As for the negatives, there are a couple:
1) I could use more fan plugs. 2 cpu and 3 system fans is not enough if you are doing some serious air cooling.
2) I'm not sure if metal shield on the pcie slots does anything at all. It doesn't seem to be threaded through the board.
3) Only option for 2 sli setup.
Having said that, I am very happy with this board, and would highly recommend it.
