Pro's and Cons. First off, I really like this Sous Vide Pod with a few reservations. Some things that any buyer must be aware of before purchase is that this unit appears to be lacking product support information. There is no phone number, address or any way to contact the company should anyone have a problem (I did find an email address). I also found it very strange that I could not find a company named Slaiya that manufactures this unit anywhere on the net even with extensive searches. In fact, there is no indication on the box, on the unit itself or any of the written material that would tell the buyer where this unit was even manufactured. I haven't had this unit very long and I have no idea whether it will last any length of time. However, here are my initial impressions of this unit, from un-boxing to testing to actually cooking something. Keep in mind that even as a long time cook, this is the first time that I have ever cooked Sous Vide:
1. This unit came professionally packaged
2. The build and feel appear to be of high quality materials.
3. The written operational instructions were easy to understand and the unit itself was easy to operate.
4. The unit is very quiet and accurately comes up to set temperature quickly and maintains that set temperature to within +/- .1 degree F (as checked with my calibrated thermal pen).
5. The time and temp display are bright and easy to read
6. The unit signals both when set temperature within set range and when it actually reaches set temp.
7. The unit came with five Sous Vide bags and a vacuum pump (for those without a vacuum food sealer).
7. My first meal cooked with this was seasoned chicken that I then breaded with Cajun spices and deep fried for three minutes (only 3 minutes because the chicken was already cooked to perfection). Yum! Best and crispiest fried chicken that I have ever eaten.
Cons: My only con is there appears to be no product support. After the Amazon 30 day return window, the buyer may be strictly on their own. This unit would have received an enthusiastic 5 stars from me, otherwise.
So why did I buy this unit?
1. Price (This is actually a very high quality unit at that price point)
2. 100% manual operation. No Smart Phone, internet connection, bluetooth, online accounts with new user name and secure 8 digit passwords required. No having to link unit to any social media apps or having to sign in to a website to use it. No internet tracking and spying. No app software updates and secret user agreements, etc.
Bottom line: I like this Sous Vide cooker a lot, and after having used and tested it I would most likely buy it again. I will update this review if I run into any problems in the future with it.
the machine itself is easy to use. Fill a large pot, or even a large tupperware container with water. Bag the meat-frozen or fresh, and clip it to the side. (I use the same clips I use to close packages). Attach the Sous Vide to the side--super easy with the screw attachment. Plug it in, turn the dial to the right temp, push a button, turn the dial again to set the time and push start. Walk away. Drift back into the kitchen 15 or so minutes before you want to eat and prepares you side dishes. Take meat out of bags and toss into a heated skillet to brown for about a minute per side max. That's it. Dinner is ready and it is GOOD!
