The main difference is that this one has solid, one piece wrenches instead of the common hex key sets which are bent in a loop to go around the hinge... that might seem like a small detail, but I cant tell you how many of those sets Ive broken because they flex around the mounting point.
The second key feature is the properly sized flathead key, which is thick enough to be sturdy and also fits better in most camera screws than your normal flathead. This tool works pretty much perfectly with every bolt on my rig, and will have a permanent place in my kit. I may even pick up another as a backup or to have one permanently in my photography bag and one for video.
As other reviewers have said, the bag/case combo that comes with it is a little unnecessary, but having options isn't bad I guess.
The screw storage holes are an interesting idea but not that practical. My shortest M4 screw, an 8mm, extends completely through the scales and is in the way of the Philips screwdriver. The same issue will occur with even smaller screws. To keep the screws from shaking loose in my pocket I had to snug them down with a conventional Allen wrench. But to get them out of the tool for use in the field I am going to have to carry an Allen key set with me or buy another SmallRig Folding Tool.
The Pros: First: It saves you time and frustration looking for the right size wrench.
Second: All of your tools are in one place
Third: It comes in a nice little bag, that goes in a nice little zippered case. ( I actually just put those things aside...but it is a nice touch) It fits nicely in a pocket.
Fourth: It fits just about everything. I have tried it with all of my plates, and I have even tried it on the legs of my Manfrotto tripod...and it works. I am not saying that it will work on everything... but if you get one of these, you can try it on your kit and see where it works. It is not that you are tightening the legs on your tripod all that much, but it is a secure feeling to know that you can if you have to. (Most tripod companies don't give you a Hex Key Wrench for adjusting the tension on the legs)
The cons: First of all, it costs a lot more than a bunch of free Hex Key wrenches. I just figure that it saves me time and frustration when I need to change a plate and I have to dig around my camera bag. $20 is quite a bit, but I have used mine several times since I received, and everything went faster and smoother than all of those times before.
Second: I am not exactly sure how well built this thing is. I read a review that said that they busted off one of the Hex Key Wrenches, So, I guess, if you go into it knowing that you can be the Incredible Hulk if you aren't careful, you won't try to turn the screw to tight...just a thought. But really, if you just tighten it down without trying to make it never come out, you should be okay.
So, That's my review on this tool. I like it, it works for me, and I use it. Give it a try, and I think that you will understand why I like it. Good luck.
It could be much better with the following changes:
#1. There should be a surface across the back so a belt clip could be added.
#2. Additional "tools" should be offered to customize the too to my needs. The philips head offered is only a #1 and I need #2 and other philips drivers. There are over 3 dozen types of screw heads today from hex to security torx and everything in between. I need some of them that are not offered.
#3. The screw holes and bits should be labeled/identified like you do on TS2432.
#4. What? No bottle opener? ;-)
Hope this finds you well and you are able to act on these suggestions.

This product and packaging is the very definition of over-engineering and waste. The tool is solid metal and VERY sturdy so I do not feel that the 5 levels of packaging were required to ship this product. Where will most people put this tool? I think it's safe to say that it will fit in a little slot inside a pelican case or in a pocket inside a camera bag or vest. Does it really need a soft bag with drawstring and a hard case with pocket and zipper? I only with my camera came packed as safely as this tool did.
So, this SOLID metal tool... it comes inside a soft bag, inside a hard shell case with zipper, inside another thick plastic bag, inside a lidded box, and all of that came shipped inside an Amazon box with air-filled bubble padding. Maybe next time I could order just the tool and maybe save half of the total cost of this product?
Again, the SmallRig tool set is fantastic and I highly recommend it but I can help but feel the price is inflated due to the extensive packaging. On the bright side, at least you have some options for storing the tool if you plan on tossing it in an open bag with your gear.
1) storing a remote camera plunger cable and
2) extra Arca plates
Very handy tool, though I have yet to find a use for the Torx bit.
