Do not buy this game unless you are simply looking to add it to a collection. It is no longer playable. The online servers needed to play this game went down years ago. So unless you just want to say you own it and watch it sit on a shelf then don't bother.

Rough start but back up where it should be!

The launch day was not a very good one for this game. The servers were acting up so many people did'nt even get a chance to play the game. Day after that, the game has been working nearly perfect...for me atleast. I have'nt played Socom since the second installment but for me, this game picks up where Socom II left off. Great team-based game that is heavy on tactics. Run-n-gun is hardly an option in this game. It really forces people to use the mic(which is great) to work together. Definitely worth more than 2 1/2 stars.

I found SOCOM's match making system a bit of a pain. I'm used to the Halo 2 and 3, and COD 4 online experience. SOCOM seems like too much work to join a game. The cross hair is a bit awkward and takes time to get used to. The reticle is the size of a needle point making head shots very difficult while not zoomed in. I guess I would have noticed all this if I had gotten a chance to play the beta. However, it seems almost impossible to play any beta for the PS. The headset seems fine and it takes nothing to par it with the PS3. I wore it for an hour and didn't notice any discomfort. I feel SOCOM will be enjoyed most by true SOCOM fans. For me this game is unfulfilling and I long for the day Killzone 2 comes out. Until then I'll be playing COD4 for the majority of the time.

I have all the other socom games and really enjoyed playing the game itself than going online to play against others. I did not realize that this game was only online. I wished it was like the older the games where it had both. Oh well I will still enjoy going online and battling it out with other socom fans.
