Cryogenic Heat Treatment Guarantees a Sharp, Dependable Blade
The E37 offers a full, 4.85-inch, satin-finished, AUS8 stainless steel blade that has undergone SOG's proprietary Cryogenic Heat Treatment process, which ensures that this blade will stay sharp over the long haul. This intensive process takes more than 48 hours and requires slowly reducing the blade's temperature to less than -300 degrees Fahrenheit, then slowly heating the blade to room temperature. The stress created by this process strengthens the steel on an atomic level and increases the blade's overall durability and edge retention.
Ergonomic, Lightweight Design Ensures Years of Effortless Use
Even if your blade is sharp, it's hard to make precise cuts if your knife doesn't fit comfortably in your hand. That's why this knife's handle is ergonomically contoured. Crafted from tough, glass-reinforced Zytel, the textured handle is also slip-free and well-balanced. Other ergonomic features include deep finger grooves and a blade spine rasp for easy notching, filing, and thumb placement. Also, at just 5.4 ounces, this knife is lightweight. A tactical nylon sheath with accessory pouch is included for convenient portability.
This knife is backed by a lifetime warranty that protects against defects in manufacturing and materials.

Top customer reviews
It came with a large nylon sheath. I understand the logic behind the nylon sheath and a lot of people like them, but in my opinion it's quite a bit of overkill for such a small and lightweight knife. The sheath is quite huge for it and has a large pocket on the front of it. I would've preferred a kydex style, smaller sheath...but then again, this is all personal preference. After all...this is "my wife's" knife anyway.......right? :) 5 stars for a great knife.
The Pup came shipped very sharp already. I could easily shave bark off some limbs. It isn't a heavy knife, and the handle makes it easy to control your cuts and carving. Batoning is tough on a knife, but the Pup went through some pretty hefty chunks of wood with ease. The rasp on the spine does notch wood well, if you need to. But it also makes a great strike surface to use, if you need to baton. It actually helps control your hits. The wood you strike it with will grab that rasp surface, and direct all your energy down, instead of sliding around or off the spine of the blade.
After all of the testing I did the first day, it is still as sharp as when I first held it. The edge retains a level of sharpness that is impressive, and up to taking abuse. I have not yet had to sharpen it after quite a long period of hard use.
The sheath is good, but not great. The nylon sheath will mount in several ways, and securely holds the Pup. That said, the knife sometimes wanted to miss the insert in the sheath for the blade. You have to be careful putting it back into the insert to avoid damage to the sheath. The outside pocket is a great addition, and a worthy trade-off to the Kydex sheath. I have a sharpener in the pocket, with room to spare. With use, the sheath has worked out the initial stiffness, and drawing and replacing the blade is now easier. It takes a small break-in period however. Just be careful when the sheath is new. The velcro/snap strap holds the knife securely.
I wouldn't hesitate to buy another.
I've always wanted one of the SEAL knives, but wanted one with a straight edge and satin finish... and SOG finally offered one. I have dozens of great knives, and this one is no exception.
It was evenly ground and sharpened, nicely finished, and already razor sharp right out of the box... it needed no touching up at all. Its blade is thick, and the handle quite comfortable.
Like other reviewers have said, mine came with the nylon sheath, and I actually chose this one because of that. I definitely prefer a good nylon sheath to Kydex. It's more comfortable to wear long-term; more versatile in carry options; and the additional pouch is great for a multi-tool, folding knife, or sharpener.
Keep in mind that this is a knife; it's not an axe, hatchet, or machete... it's a knife, with a specific set of abilities and limitations. If one uses the right tool for a specific job every time, he'll rarely be disappointed.
Since I don't throw regular knives, or expect them to fell timber or cut firewood, I expect this knife, like my others, will last beyond my lifetime.
