After surviving one of the most extensive test and evaluation programs ever undertaken by the U.S. Government, including knives from most U.S. cutlery manufacturers, the SOG SEAL Knife triumphed. The SEALs are one of the most specialized elite military groups in the world today. SEALs must undergo one of the most rigorous training programs devised to produce the consummate warrior.
Only a select few endure and earn the right to wear the SEAL Trident on their uniform. The SEAL knife evaluation program included: tip breaking stress, blade breaking limit, sharpness, edge retention, handle twist off force, two week salt water immersion tests, gasoline and acetylene torch resistance, chopping, hammering, prying, penetration tests, cutting six different types of rope and line, plus an intense hands-on competition in the field.
The SE37-N SEAL Team Elite fixed blade knife from SOG Specialty Knives & Tools (model SE37-N) is complemented by a black tactical nylon sheath. All SOG products are guaranteed against defects in workmanship and materials for the life of the original purchaser.
Caring for Your Fixed Blade Knife
Keeping your knife clean, dry, oiled and sharp are the primary defenses against corrosion, wear, and potential injury. Be sure to clean the blade and handle after each use--however, do not soak your knife in water. A mild solution of soap and water should remove any dirt and debris that may have accumulated during use (avoid harsh detergents such as laundry or dish soap, and chlorine products).
After cleaning or after exposure to moisture be sure to completely dry your knife blade and handle, taking special care with any sensitive handle materials. Use a soft cotton cloth or chamois and a small amount of moisture-displacing oil (such as WD-40 or 3-in-1), on the blade only, to prevent water spots and oxidation from forming. Fingerprints and weather are the primary causes of rusting or corrosion on a knife blade. To keep your knife looking its best, SOG recommends that you give your blade a light coat of oil after each cleaning, and prior to long term storage.

The sheath is the best on the market, I don't know why anyone would want the more expensive kydex sheath, its not as good and is not MOLLE ready. many people have said it is "triple stitched" but it is actually double stitched and riveted, it's all you need
Titanium Nitride (TiNi) coating makes the stainless steel even more waterproof
Extreme heat treatment for the blade
Pocket on the sheath for a firesteel/multi-tool
Exposed tang at the bottom of the blade that makes a useful strike for firesteels or hammer
Ribbed back useful for notching
Ribbed back bites into thumbs well and makes great jimping
Ultra durable Zytel handle
MOLLE straps on the back of the sheath
Extremely large cutting surface
Sharp serrations that cut with ease
Price, this knife was nearly 2x more expensive than my Kabar
The serrations are a little long
The handle is rough on your hands for normal people, but I love the extra traction
Although I don't know how durable this knife is, I can say that this is a great knife and I'd gladly take it with me to all corners of the earth.
The steel is treated with SOG's cryogenic treatment, which cools the steel to around -300 deg F. They then slowly bring the steel back up to normal temperature, a process that actually changes the steel at a molecular level giving it excellent strength. The blade is then coated in Titanium Nitrite (TiNi), a type of ceramic that is matte black to further protect the blade from the elements, including the oil in fingerprints.
Of course, SOG recommends that after use, as soon as you are able, that you clean the blade with plain water, dry it completely, & then coat it in a petroleum based oil-type product (I used Vaseline, so I hope that's sufficient because otherwise all I have is mineral oil for treating my cutting boards & vegetable oils for cooking). They also recommend that if you aren't going to be using the knife for a long period of time that you store it unsheathed in a dry place. They suggest this to prevent rust, though if ruse should occur, the suggest using fine steel wool (000), to remove the rust & then treat the blade with a pretrolium-based oil to protect it from further damage from the elements.
Overall, however, this is an excellent knife with great qualities. It's fantastic balance provides great feel in the hand. The handle is a glass reinforced Zytel, & the blade's tang goes through the handle to protrude out the bottom end.Read more ›
I bought the Ka-Bar with the Kydex sheath and it clicks in securely. Slight thumb pressure releases the knife and the sheath is an excellent design. The Ka-Bar's Kraton handle is extremely comfortable and thicker than the handle on the Seal Pup Elite. The thicker Kraton handle is why I purchased the Mark 1 over the Ka-Bar short fighting knife which have similar blade lengths. Another advantage of the Mark 1 over the SOG is the pommel that, in a pinch, could be used as a hammer. I was concerned about the nylon sheath that came with the SOG Seal Pup Elite, but it has a sturdy plastic insert that adds stability and security. When carried, it does have to be secured with the combination snap/velcro strap for peace of mind. The pouch on the sheath is a bonus. The handle is nowhere near as comfortable as the Ka-Bar's Kraton handle due to many small diamond-shaped protrusions. The texture affords security in critical circumstances, but if the SOG were used repetitively with force, it would definitely require a sturdy glove to protect your hand. The blade of the Seal Pup Elite is thicker and, not surprisingly, feels sturdier compared to the Ka-Bar Mark 1's blade. If one grabs the blade of the knives about two thirds of the way down, it is easier to flex the Ka-Bar's blade laterally. The weight of the Ka-Bar Mark 1 and the SOG Seal Pup Elite are comparable.Read more ›

Sharp. Nice length blade. The only bad thing to say about the one I received is that the jumping at the top of the blade is a little sharp. Read morePublished 14 days ago by william c
