My only dislikes are A) I don't like the name of the pack. "Ninja" sounds silly for such an otherwise great product and B) in the upper velcro area for patches, there is a pattern in the fabric of a skull wearing a beret. Again, this is a silly detail on an otherwise great product. I highly recommend getting a 2"x 3" american flag patch to cover this nonsense up.
My number one tip to improve this bag would be to rub a candle on all of the zippers. I found the zippers to be quite stiff and hard to open and close when I first bought the bag, but after rubbing a the hard wax from a candle over them they are running so much smoother.
Since buying this backpack I've discovered the "SOG accessory pouch" (small) and I can't recommend it enough if you're looking to expand the size of this backpack.
When I purchased my first accessory pouch it was $6.49 with Prime shipping, the price has since gone up a little (and it's often out of stock) but I still think it is wayyy underpriced. I now have 4 SOG accessory pouches for my pack and two Chrome Industries phone pouches that mount on the shoulder straps, The SOG pouches are fantastic, they easily attach to the molle webbing on the outside of your pack, they have elastic on the inside to keep things like flashlights, multitools etc in place and there are two large mesh pockets with drawstrings to keep loose items.
The "small" is huge, a little larger than a Maxpedition Fatty. I just added some pics of my pack with all 4 pouches (plus two phone pouches) attached...probably a couple too many TBH, but I can easily remove them if need be.
I've wanted to build myself a bug-out bag for a while now, something that would hold enough gear to last me at least 72 hours in an emergency situation.
I think I made a great choice in buying this bag. I have a lot of other SOG products, and like the other items I own, this seems well made.
I particularly like that this bag has so many pockets, so its easier to keep everything organized.
There's also a lot of molle webbing on the outside, so I'll probably buy a couple of extra pouches to have the option of carrying additional gear (see update 2).
My Platypus 3 liter hydration pack fits into a pocket in the main section (I think a 2 liter bag would probably fit better though) and there's a hole to run the tubing and mouthpiece to the outside.
There's also a pocket on the outside for a water bottle.
I'm sure I'm going to be tweaking my gear for a long time in an effort to get just the right combo, but so far I'm really pleased with this bag.
It is not as well built as the Maxpedetion Condor, but it makes up for it in reduced weight, and better design.
What I love about this Pack, is that the main compartment opens fully, so you can lay it down and open it like a duffle bag, getting into it fully.
I can't stand bags that force you to get in it from the top, it reduces organization, and ease of access.
With the SOG Ninja, I can fit documents in folders; tons of them, socks, handkerchiefs, a Msr miniwoeks ex water filter, a collapsible baton, sub hilt fighter knife by cold steel, XL Espada by cold steel, boonie cap, and bug net. and three cotton shirts.
Still has room for odds and ends; purification tablets etc.
Emergency Tourniquet in mesh pocket, small blow out kit in the other.
And that's just the main compartment.
Not even counting the top and front.
The SOG Ninja destroys the Maxpedetion Condor I was using, it just gives way way better organization.
It's lighter, smaller, and yet it holds more and holds it better because of the design.
I still would not go as rough on the SOG due to it not being made as well as the Maxpedetion.
But I'd still use this over the Condor, because of the above.
You can't go wrong with this pack.
It stands up straight without drooping, and lays on it's back uniform which enables it to be used like a duffel bag or range bag.
Full access to the inside.
Pack it with clothing and everything stays in place even when upright.
Really well thought out pack.
Nothing useless on it.
The side water bottle holder also holds my 32 oz Nalgene with zero issue.
Though you'd be better off with a Gatoraid bottle; holds the same amount of water but is lighter.
