Right, so, you get the idea. I liked the style, so I started reading reviews. The general consensus was that these were every bit as good as Beats, but at half the price. Now, I already have Audio Technica ATH-M50's (over the ear) and ATH-CKM55's (buds), and frankly, I am a big AT fan. They sneak in with great sound and they don't have the "Bose tax" (or substitute your favorite SOMETIMES overpriced brand here). Well, at least they did when I bought them. I think a lot of people have started catching on to just how good AT equipment can be.
Anyway, I have been very pleased with my existing combo, but I wanted to add something to the collection that brought something a bit different. These are just that, different, in a good way. Yes, they are full of bass and the highs are muddy. If you want a set of "hear everything" or reference headphones, go elsewhere. These are a tough set of "just-have-some-great-bass-fun" cans. They are well-constructed and sound exactly as you would expect for headphones going up against Beats. I don't know if they have any burn-in period, so I'll post back if anything changes that much.
Bottom line...I'm very pleased with the Tracks HD. They fit in nicely with my other cans/buds. Add to that the fact that these are the special edition Deadmau5 headphones, well you either love 'em or hate 'em, and I love 'em. Yes, they are orange and yellow, and yes... they rock. :-)
-bass is just as good as Beats by Dre Studios
-Unbreakable headband*** Tried bending it 270* degrees in the opposite direction and it flexxed back to normal. I DON"T RECOMMEND THIS, but it was fun to try out.
-Cable comes with track control that can skip, play, pause, and voice control
-ON-ear design feels decent. I thought it would hurt, but wasn't bad and was wearing them over 5 hours and didn't feel a thing.
-Once you put these on, all sound from outside is like cut 70%. SO you can't really hear whispers. With music at around 45% of my Ipod touch 4G volume, I couldn't hear anybody next to me or people talking in the bus. EXCELLENT!
-SEXY TOKIDOKI design! I love the image of the girl with long-black hair in the inner side of headband.
-Earmuffs are slid onto the headband, so if you're on-the-go, this is perfect for you!
-Bottom side of headband has some "fluffy n' soft" leather.
-Requires no BATTERIES! Woot!
-Headphone band itself is long but won't cut into your neck, and short enough to be comfortable on your head.
-Pictures on headband are painted/decal'ed (not sure which) onto the underside of the headband. So if you somehow scratch the bottom image, it will show on the other side of the headphone bands. The headphone band itself is a clear material.
-Earmuffs are too slidable. It's stiff when you slide them on, but the first-time I tried adjusting it, it makes me feel clumsy and awkward. After a few times, i got the hang of it so it wasn't too bad. A "first-timer" thing.
-Cables need to be connected to both earmuffs to work. Requires a lot of force to push them in and hear a "click" sound.Read more ›
Last year, he just HAD to have a pair of Beats ear buds, so I broke down and bought them for him. The reviews were right, they were junk and broke quickly. The replacements lasted a little longer, but not much. I'm w-a-y done with Beats anything. The over the ear ones I listened to weren't all that impressive.
Once the earbuds were kaput, he ended up borrowing my Senheiser PXC 450 cans. I wasn't real thrilled about him subjecting my $350 'phones to the abuses a young lad inflicts on stuff, so I bought him a set of Philips O'Neill SHO9560/28 Over-Ear Headphones - Black Bordeaux cans for $35. They are rugged and sound OK. Far better than their price would indicate, and I convinced him they were pretty close to Beats. Actually, they aren't all that much less good, and for 10% of the price, I was happy, and so was he.
I though the whole sound of the Philips was a a bit muddy, and the highs were thin and seemed muffled (at least compared to my Senheisers and Bose QC2). After hearing a pair of these SOL Republic deadmau5 at an Apple store, I was really impressed. They give the big bass that kids like for younger music, and I admit I kind of like, too. It is clean and clear, and seems more detailed than the Beats, and as good as the Senheisers but stronger. The mid range and highs were the surprise. They are clear, defined, transparent and very listenable. They are at least within striking distance of the Senheisers, and maybe a bit better than the Bose. Of course, the SOL are not noise canceling, so providing a good sound image is easier than when the NC electronics is involved.
The kid likes the sound of the deadmau5s better than the Philips (I'd sure hope so!Read more ›
