Great fun for practicing anywhere!

I like to practice riffs both at home and on the go. The Sonicake US Classic guitar headphone amp offers me a way to do so quietly, if I wanted to. The controls are simple as is the reverb effect. The US Classic headphone amp is always with me now. It makes practice fun, loose, and clutter free.

The rechargeable battery (with the included USB cable) is my favorite feature. It keeps the unit lightweight in my backpack and on my wallet, since I don't have to buy any batteries. An added bonus is the AUX input that I use to play along to a drum machine.

I've used this amp while wearing headphones and had a fun time. Better still, I rocked out proper by plugging one end of the supplied 3.5mm AUX cable into the headphone jack and the other end into the AUX input of my car stereo, with the volume cranked as loud as possible! Practice is fun again.

Shopped around a bit before settling on this model. This is this the first one of these I have ever purchased. Wasn't really sure what to expect as far as sound quality and battery life. I originally had decided on one of the Vox models, but was kind of turned off by the lack of a rechargeable battery. I ultimately decided on the Sonicake. Price was good, reviews were good so i decided to roll the dice on this one. I have been very pleased with this unit. Batter life is really good. The sound quality is fantastic. The included fx are sound really good. Seems to be really well made, it is plastic but doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. I would tell anyone looking for one of these headphone amps to give the Sonicake brand a try. For the money you just can't go wrong. I am now considering picking up one of the other versions as well to have a variety of tones to play with.

The Soncake headphone amp is a great item to have in your guitar case. So many times at a gig I try to find a quiet corner to practice at, only to find I can't hear myself. Now with The Sonicake headphone amp, I can practice anywhere. The Sonicake has a rechargeable battery that you can recharge with the USB cable provided. When charged it lasts about 5 hours. The volume will get loud and precise. The tone control over halfway up will be a little shrill for most. The gain I would equate to a tube screamer in front of a Fender. The gain works well for blues,jazz and lite rock. Those looking for more saturation will be disappointed. This is not a metal or heavy rock distortion. That being said the Sonicakecake headphone amp does give you a warm and colourful sound. I first used a Strat and found myself in "Stevie Ray Vaughn" land all day. My Les Paul took on an " Allman Bros." Tone. The Sonicake does come with reverb, although it is not adjustable. The reverb reminds of a "Surf Guitar" sound. Like a Fender Twin with the reverb on 10 or 11. The Sonicake says it also has chorus, but I could not detect any. There also is no switch for chorus. The Sonicake comes with a USB cable, an adapter so you can have two headphone outs or two aux in. The aux in works perfectly for playing along or learning new songs. If you take the the time to adjust the volume on The Sonicake and the media your putting in the aux in, it sounds great!! The price for the Sonicake is respectable, compared to other units with less features.

Better alternative to VOX mini-amp

I got tired of the more common and more expensive VOX AC30 microamp. I can't compare to the VOX Blues version, but this one doesn't use batteries, which the VOX eats up pretty quickly (AAAs). The mini-usb port is much sturdier than micro-usb which many cell phones have. I'm still a beginner, I can't make a very educated assessment of the sound, but it makes my practice a lot easier without disturbing housemates, not to mention the person in the apartment above.

Great Form Factor, Poor Performance

I really like the packaging style and that it has a rechargeable battery. Unfortunately, it doesn't perform well. I've gone through two of them and both have problems with cutting out which seems to be related to one of the stages saturating. This problem ranged from the volume dropping to roughly half to nearly full cutoff of sound. I would have to spend a lot of time trying to balance the volume and gain pots to try and get something that would work. On top of this problem, both units suffered from a white noise hiss which wouldn't take long to become very annoying. Turning down the volume helped as expected, but then that limits the range of settings that work in conjunction with the gain to get a decent sound that actually functions. A metalized case instead of plastic could potentially help this and would be worth a few extra dollars. The reverb is a great feature, but there isn't any adjustment for that, so its either on or off. I liked using the reverb, but it was a little heavier than I would have personally set it. The Vox version of this I purchased previously has some similar circuit issues and was returned. I don't know the design heritage, but they look a lot alike so I wonder if the circuit is also common, although the Vox sounded less shrill than this one. At one point this may have been a good headphone amp. I'm only guessing that possibly part values were changed or that possibly the design isn't tolerant to manufacturing variation. Presently it's just weak execution of what could be a really nice product.

Wow! What a pleasant surprise to get a piece of musical gear that actually does what the name on the tin says!
I needed a personal amp to be able to practice silently at home and as this unit was very reasonably priced I decided to take a punt. Basically, as long as I could hear the instrument through the headphones, I wasn’t fussed. So, I chose the US Classic model as I play a Telecaster, sometimes a Gretsch, without distortion, mostly country and rockabilly styles.
Well, this little unit has it nailed: absolutely an American sound, with all the nasal twang and clarity that I want and expect from my guitar, this unit is not just another flat-sounding sonic nonentity.
I love it!
Why only four stars? There is some background hiss, but, in use this hardly matters and frankly this unit is such good value for money given it’s overall sound and ease of use it is hard to beat.

USB Charging & the FX Tone Are Nice Features

This was a little bit of a tight fit into my lefty strat and the amp sits slightly wedged on the bottom tone control. However, I found that's quite handy when adjusting the controls as this holds it stable. The only downside is I have the Gilmour mod switch on that control.

A nice feature is no batteries are required as it charges via USB 1.0. Another nice feature is that charge lights display by flashing sequentially when it's charging and the amp still works fine when charging as well. The charge cable is supplied along with aux cable and headphone splitter. The FX tone works well and is a nice feature which my other headphone amps don't have. Also this has an aux out which you can feed to you mixer / amp. This unit seems along with all my headphone amps a little noisy on the higher gain settings but that said with headphones you're always more likely to be aware of that.

Nice basic clean headphone amp

Bought this with low expectations for one of my daughters who wanted to play. The clean tone this produces is decent enough but the controls do very little other than tweak the mids a bit, so the amp only really has one "tone". But for my little one who wanted to play without having to learn how to use my amps this is perfect.

I would also suspect this would be perfect to have in a travel bag to jam on in hotels etc of an evening should any consultant type people actually go back to visiting customers post pandemic.

For the cost you can't really go wrong as long as you only want a clean tone with a dash of reverb.

The gain control is a little weak but i use this for practice so no real complaints. The reverb effect is sufficient but not adjustable.

Dreadful long hall type reverb that's is unusable in my opinion unless your only wanting to go for a big goth sound.
As far as the rest of the the usability of the unit goes.
Put it this way its now over priced in a market that has other cheaper options and still comes no where close to the 'Fox' Version out there.
One big plus is its rechargeable and needs no batteries.
Only my thoughts and will depend greatly I imagine as to what clean sounds are like with different guitar's.
