I live on a farm and work with horses and wanted something a little more stylish to have for casual wear around town and for quick visits to the barn where I'm not mucking about. And although I absolutely love my muck boots they are god awful ugly. These looked like a cute option.
I really like the styling of these and whether they are truly waterproof as advertised remains to be seen. What I can say is that they are cold and sweaty and I don't normally if ever have sweaty feet. I'm sitting indoors waiting for a friend at the hospital and my feet are freezing despite wearing a pair of cashmere/wool socks. I just took my feet out of the boots and they are totally damp.
I can't imagine anyone buying these boots for hot or very cold weather wear; these seem like an in-between season boot.
I just ordered a pair of shearling insoles and hope this improves the sweating and freezing issues. Given the price, I really want to love these boots. I get that the rubber outer isn't a breathable material but a better insole (the one that comes with the boots is hard and insufficient) might make a difference.
Hopefully they'll hold up - I've read mixed reviews about durability but it seems that Sorel is good about honoring their products.
Edit - after two light wearings the leather on the heel started to come off and an opaque plastic heel started to show through. Sorel's have clearly become cheaply made with seriously inferior materials. I guess Sorel's are becoming all form no function. These are maybe worth $50 NOT $215.
For those who don't read the entire review, most importantly -- I wear a 10.5 now after giving birth and they were true to size. Also -- THEY DONT MAKE MY FEET LOOK BIG!!!!! I always, always, always have issues buying boots as they end up making my feet look like boats. Not these!! They look good with a pair of boot cut jeans or skinny jeans!! I couldn't be happier with the style!!
The ONLY reason I'm giving a 4 star review is because of three minor issues --
1-- If you plan on wearing these for more than 3-4 hours at a time while walking/working, your feet will sweat and then they will stay wet.
I bought these for a trip to Scotland. They kept my feet warm, but after wearing them for 4+ hours a day and walking 5+ miles a day, my feet were soaked... and stayed that way until I took them off.
2-- I wish there were small straps at the top to provide an easier way of getting them on. To not have a zipper or laces, and then to have not put 'boot straps' at the top to pull them on was a major defect of the designers!!
3-- they are, to my surprise, very slick when it rains. It's fine if you're in grass/dirt, but if you're walking along cobble stone or slick sidewalks you need to be cautious. To be all weather, outdoor terrain boots I was saddened by this defect.
Also, might want to wear an extra pair of socks in them if you wear them a long time for added comfort.
For the main purpose of style and keeping my feet away from the elements, they were amazing.
The heels of them have worn off a bit, but again, I wore them for 2 weeks straight in the rough terrain of the U.K.
All this being said, I would definitely buy them (and others like them) again!
I received my Sorels today. They look beautiful and feel super comfy and warm. Shipping was super fast and they were even delivered on a Sunday.
Due to the reviews I ordered half a size up from my normal size. I wear a size 8 so I ordered an 8 1/2. I was wearing normal winter socks when I tried them on and I had a TEENSY bit of room left over, which is good because I have super thick winter socks I want to wear with them and I think they'll fit.
However, if I was going to wear normal thin socks with them I probably would have gone with a size 8. But if you need a hardy working boot, who wears normal thin socks?
Anyways, I just got them and probably won't be wearing them for a couple weeks. I'll update my review once I've worn them 👍
This model is larger around the ankle and the shaft isn't as streamlined, but they are still beautiful and great to wear running errands in cold/wet weather. I condition the leather and rubber often on my previous pairs, and apply water proofing a few times a season. Do this and they'll last and look fantastic.
Update: Received the size 9, which are a perfect fit. Took the tags off and wore them immediately in the 30f degree weather. Love the fit & feel in the cold rainy weather.
