The SP gadgets is cheaper, lighter, shorter (min), longer (max) and better designed/built. The only category that the GoPole may win is the fact that it floats.
The GoPole has a screw in lanyard, the problem is that the metal ring on metal mount will clang and hurt the GoPro's audio. I had to replace the ring with a piece of small rope, but they should have thought about that design issue before releasing it. The POV pole has a solid loop and lanyard that are thicker than the GoPole and make zero noise.
It's kind of pointless that the Evo is still clear. The new twist lock on it is so large, it sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, I hated that the Evo's free spinning extension means that you'll rarely ever line up the GoPro the same twice. The SP Gadgets locks in the same spot every time. The smaller arms are nearly inperceivable.
The POV is almost pocket sized. Much smaller and lighter than the Evo. The grip is stickier and more ergonomic on the POV pole.
I'm extremely happy with my purchase and would suggest others purchase fr SP Gadgets too.
Packaging:
It comes nicely packaged in a not so bulky package.
Quality:
The pole seems by no way a cheap pole. It extends smoothly. It has a great quality grip. The blue aluminium on bottom of it looks great.
While using it:
Due to the type of mount it has, the gopro fits steadily and it doen't move as you use it. As the GoPro has a wide angle lens, which makes things look further than they are, you have more than enough with its 36". When fully contracted, it will fit in any small bag.
Overall:
As soon as I started using it, i realized it is a MUST if you have a GoPro. After buying this i barely used my gopro. Now that i have it i use it a lot more.
About customer service:
After a little time of using it, it broke. I decided to contact amazon. They inmediately sent me a free extra pole at no cost.
I've gone through a couple of these different brand: http://www.amazon.com/XShot-Camera-Extender-Cameras-XS2379-F/dp/B000VA4CK8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1390341560&sr=8-2&keywords=xshot
They were not well made and would break after a few uses.
When I found POV Pole 36" GoPro Edition I decided to give it a try even though it was a bit pricey for a GoPro pole. However, I took POV Pole on a trip to Sweden/Norway and after using it for 2 weeks I was not disappointed. The POV Pole feel sturdy in your hand, did not wiggle like the XShot did. It was easy to collapse and expand as needed. The length was perfect and the weight was nice and light (I'm a 5'5 Asian female with small hands and it fits comfortably). I highly recommend this and definitely money well spent. You will probably end up spending just as much if not more by getting those cheap quality poles and have to replace them!
Don't waste your money on this 'pole,' get a cheaper one someplace else.
Owned for over three years and still is perfect for my GoPro HERO5
