Product Description

One of our most popular units, the A501 is a good sized hard case and comes with a pre-cubed foam block included. The foam can be easily cut so you can store things inside the foam and have it safely locked in place and protected.

5.0 out of 5 stars UPDATE: I DROPPED ONE... and it Protected All my Stuff!!
By DotScott1 on June 11, 2018
UPDATE: I just dropped one onto concrete on accident when I was pulling it out of my trunk. It hit the edge of my trunk and just kind of pulled it out of my hand. It hit the ground pretty hard too. Solid concrete. This particular case - with what it's filled with - is EXTRA HEAVY too... since it's holding all my glass. I was scared half to death till I actually checked it out and to my surprise, it didn't even really make a scratch or dent! I think it landed on the corner but upon examination, I can't even tell! Everything inside was fully protected! If I was generally pleased with this thing before, now I'm REALLY pleased with it! THANK GOD I HAD THIS THING! I think that would have been one expensive drop if it had been any other case. 10/10.

Also just a note to myself... don't be so clumsy with thousands of dollars worth of gear -_-

Original Review:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bought two of these for my photogrammetry camera gear and so far, they're working really great.

Check out the pictures to see how I'm using them. I'm pretty much using all of the space I can without completely taking out all the foam. I'm also planning on reinforcing the thin, remaining strands of foam with duct tape just so it doesn't fall apart in the future. I've already applied the tape to a few spots and it seems to be working really well.

PROS:
- Seems to lock nice and tight, even when some of my lenses are kind of large and trying to push it open (they're kind of pressed against the top foam but luckily, there's quite a bit of play in that foam).

- Case seems very strong. I feel like my gear is pretty safe in here, even if it shifts around in my trunk while traveling or it drops... just feel like everything would be well-protected.

- LOCKS! This was a must for me as sometimes I have to check things like this on flights. So having the little TSA-lock-sized holes on the hinges was one of the biggest pluses for me on this case.

- I honestly feel like it's a steal for the price. I've gotten more expensive cases that are lower quality so I'm really happy with the price point on this one. Paid $29.94 sold directly from AMazon (they seem to go out of stock fast though!).

- pre-cut foam! The foam is (I assume laser cut) into small, square strips. I love this foam because it means that 1. I don't have to cut a bunch of foam to make it the right shape for my gear. 2. It's VERY easy to quickly tear out shapes for my gear and 3. If I ever wanted to change it, I can either get more pre-cut foam block OR I can glue back in the old foam with some light glue and it sticks in just fine (I've already done this several times with other cases, seems to work well). So keep the foam you tear out!!

- The edges are for sure aluminum but the corners are plastic (strong plastic at least) but I'm not really sure about the center panels. I really can't tell if they're aluminum or plastic. If it's plastic, it seems like really sturdy plastic. But overall, it seems like a very strong case. I'm expecting mine to last a really long time.

- Comes with side brackets so you can attach the INCLUDED shoulder strap! I typically just throw the strap on top of the stuff in the box and take it around with my in case I ever need them (which I have already used a few times).

CONS:
- The only thing I could see being improved is maybe the corner caps. Right now they're plastic, would be great to see these made out of aluminum since the corners are typically the first part to hit the ground if dropped.

I think this is a fantastic case for the price. I was honestly expecting to pay twice this price for a case like this (given my past experiences with purchasing cases) so obviously I'm very happy with this, even with the plastic corner caps.

To give you an idea of the size, I have in one of my cases (CASE 1):
- 6 Nikon D3300's
- 6 D3300 battery chargers
- 8 d3300 batteries
- 3 Nikkor 50mm lenses
- 1 Rokinon 8mm lens
- 1 Tamron 90mm lens

And then in CASE 2 I have (the one with some duct tape on the slots):
- 6 Rokinon 14mm lenses
- 6 35mm lenses
- 3 polarizing filters (with cases)
- 2 D3300 batteries
