The author is one of the oldest surviving Stonewall Veterans of the 1969 Gay Uprising forty-six years ago. His 2011 photograph, standing in front of the historic, landmark Stonewall Inn, has been seen around the world.
About the Author
The author is one of the oldest participants and survivors of the 1969 Stonewall riots in Greenwich Village New York which spearheaded the Gay Rights Movement in the United States almost 50 years ago. Subsequently, the movement spread nationwide and to many countries around the world. After many hurdles, same-sex marriage and gay equality was, finally, legalized by the United States Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges. The Stonewall riots have been characterized as the "shot" heard around the world when gays fought for their rights, and won, through riots, protests, and legislation. Nevertheless, the LGBTQ people still face harsh discrimination from religious and homophobic organizations. The author attended C.U.N.Y and Washington State University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science.
