Striker is the definition of a tortured hero. He has some serious guilt issues he is trying to bury with fights and drink, but we all know how well that works. Ember has issues of her own, in the way of a controlling, narcissist abuser of an ex. I love how both Ember and Striker prove the initial stereotypes they have placed each other in wrong. Even more, I love how they make each other into better, stronger people. Striker has her back, and while he does give her orders at times, he does it to keep her safe and not to control her. He proves that by stepping back in areas she is more knowledgeable and allowing her to take the lead. He also learns to compromise with her to seem less overbearing and disruptive. I love stories with good character growth, and this definitely delivers.
Also, if you are wondering if this can be read as a standalone, the answer is yes. I have read the other books in this series, however, it was a long time ago, and I forgot their storylines. Tank is mentioned often, because he is Striker's best friend and Ember's client, but there is enough backfilling to not get lost.

Striker was the eleventh book in the Lords of Carnage series by Daphne Loveling. Although the series could be read as stand-alone books, I recommend reading them in order.

Striker was a patched MC member and we learned quickly that he was running from demons that haunted him, we just didn’t know what those demons were until later.

The storyline began exactly where book ten, Tank, left off. Tank and Cady needed to hire an attorney (Ember) to assist with Cady’s divorce and Tank’s custody of Wren. With the chaos that had just occurred, Tank wasn’t taking any chances and assigned Striker to protect Ember during the process. Little did either one of them know, Ember had her own baggage.

Striker and Ember were oil and water, night and day, light and dark. They were complete opposites in every way. However, as the friendship ensued, they weren’t as opposite as it first appeared. I really enjoyed the storyline and although it focused on the developing relationship between Striker and Ember, it also closed loops that were started in the previous book, which brought cohesiveness to the overall series. Additionally, Loveling set the stage for the final book in the series, Jude.

All in all, it was a fast and entertaining read. I enjoyed the characters as well as the storyline and can’t wait to see where Loveling takes us next in Jude.

I love the way this amazing author brings the characters to life before your eyes an you can feel their emotions an their pain. I can hardly wait to see what's next by this multi talented author.
