I had a hard time a the beginning to get into this story because Bellini Chambers is a royal pain in the arse. Meghan Quinn alternates her chapters with the three main characters -- Paisley, the girl you will love, Reese King, the man you will want to want, and Bellini, the snobby reality star you will hate.
This story plays on your emotions from the get go. You feel excitement, hatred, anticipation, and definitely lust. The chemistry between Paisley and Reese is undeniable. Everybody sees it even though they think they are hiding it. Paisley does her best to keep her feelings professional since she is the personal assistant to Bellini and Reese.
This is a must read. Grant you I bought this book because of the cover...Stuart Reardon. I soon found out that I would have missed out on a great read if I didn't get the book. I HIGHLY recommend this book!
Stuart Reardon was the perfect Reese King. Loved that character. Reese is a top BBF for me.
Stroked was such a fun book to read. First off, I'm a huge sucker for a good forbidden romance. Which is, you know, exactly what Meghan delivered with the complicated relationship between Paisley and Reese. When it started, I enjoyed the oodles of sexual tension and the chemistry these two characters shared, but it became a lot deeper than that once I got to know them (and they got to know each other) better. It was easy to root for them from the start and, honestly, it only became easier the longer the book went on because of the utter ridiculousness that was Bellini and her fake relationship with Reese. I do love a good villain in books and movies. While Bellini was one of the most vapid and obnoxious characters I think I've ever read, she did make a damn good villain. There's literally no way NOT to hate her. I can't even pity her. She's just that atrocious. (Think Paris Hilton, but even more obnoxious.) Being totally honest, it got to the point where I couldn't even fully read the chapters from her POV. I skimmed to see if I was missing anything vital and then went on reading the characters I actually liked. I refuse to get sucked down into a Bellini hole in my review though. She's integral to the plot, of course, but she was really frustrating to read. But, I also think she needed to be for the story to work. Anyhow.
I really liked both Paisley and Reese. Their chemistry was smoking hot from the very start. Ohhhhhh the sexual tension! And those sexy times. Damn! *fans self* Reese has a damn dirty mouth and I absolutely loved it. But more than all the sexy times and romance, I just found it really easy to like these two because they were genuine. Neither was perfect, they'd both made mistakes in the past, and that endeared them to me. I thought they brought out the best in each other and that's the mark of a couple I can totally get behind, no matter what they have to overcome in order to be together. Paisley and Reese were strong characters, but so were some of the secondary ones. I can't wait to get Bodi and Hollis' stories, especially. And I hope that somewhere in the next two books, Bellini truly gets what's coming to her. Ugh.
I thought Stroked was a great introduction to Meghan Quinn's writing. I loved her humor and characters. The love stories were great and the sexy times were HOT AF. I'll definitely be continuing this series, as well as taking a closer look at her backlist for more new-to-me titles to love!
1. Story- 10/10
This was a well researched, well written book. She definitely knew what she was talking about with the swimming terminology and the practices of swimmers. I can't stand when a sports book is not well researched and you can obviously tell that the author has no clue what she's talking about. This is not the case with this book. And if you aren't a swimmer and have no clue what is going on, this book is still enjoyable! Fast paced and grips you from the beginning. This is told in alternating POV's. But not just the 2 main characters. You get some chapters from a secondary character Bellini.(who you are going to hate just as much as I did!)
2. Grammar- 9/10
Little to no mistakes in spelling or misnamed. I might have seen a few, but not enough to irritate the reader. Book is well written and flows nicely.
3. Male Character- Reese King 10/10
Loved him! Olympic gold medalist with a heart of gold, even though he hasn't won a gold medal! Tattooed, hot, loves animals, treats people with respect and is a dirty talker! Yes, please! Let me know where to get one of those! He was everything you look for in a book boyfriend. Oh and he had a great sense of humor.
4. Female Character- Paisley Macarro 9/10
Paisley, also referred to as Mauve for part of the book. Not telling you why! You'll have to read the book. She was great. She had sass and was feisty. She was also tattooed and not a swimmer. She was a strong female lead and I liked her. Definitely could see myself in her shoes. Wish she would have stood up to some of the other characters like she stood up to Reese! You'll know what I mean when you read the book. I don't like giving away spoilers!
5. Sexual Content- 10/10 chili peppers
Definite cold showers are needed with this book. I want some hot wall sex from Reese!
Total score: 48/50
So I'm totally in love with Meghan Quinn's writing style and wit! She had me cracking up out loud. I was almost in tears while reading this on the treadmill at the gym, trying to keep the laughter in so people didn't think I was a crazy person. Definitely would recommend to others. And I look forward to the other 2 books in this series. And I most definitely am looking forward to picking up some other books by this author! Great book to read by the pool this summer!
