"STUBS is a charming pick...highly recommended." --Midwest Book Review

Although I am not as avid a baseball fan as the author, I did glean quite a bit of insight and appreciation for the game, the players and the history of such through the book. My favorite parts of the book however, were the interactions between the father and the children as they grew to know, love and respect each other for what they brought to the family. The author's devotion and love for his family is refreshing and simple, without being sickeningly sweet. Humor is always present, which kept things real throughout.
This is the second book by this author that I have read. Both were easy to read and I got hooked right away, not wanting to put either down until they were read from cover to cover. I hope he has more in the making. I relate to the midwest (specifically Des Moines) aspects as well as his viewpoint as a baby boomer growing up in the greatest of times. Nice job Mike.
Even not being a parent myself, I still so enjoyed the stories of the relationships with Michael and his family all growing up together in the beauty of the heart of the Midwest.
But being the huge baseball fan that I am, his description of trips to and from Wrigley Field and other sports journeys were so captivating, especially the stories showing his unbelievably extreme enthusiasm as a Cubs fan! I felt like I was sitting right there in the bleachers with him waiting for the foul ball from Mark McGwire to land in his glove inside Wrigley or taking his son to the All-Star Game in Seattle!
This is a must read for parents, sports fans, and just those that all-around love life!
This is the second book I've read from this fabulous author, and I'm so hoping there are many more to come!
