The plot is okay if you can get past the modernism and grammatical errors spread throughout the story, but much of it is unbelievable when related to Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy. Also, all the normal deterrents to a romance between Lizzy and Darcy have been removed - that means, many of the characters who create problems are missing from this story. This is just a simple romance with no real struggles to overcome.
I want to say… "The biggest issue with this book is…" but there isn't just one. There are many. As many people have already mentioned there are a lot of grammatical, punctuation, and spelling errors. There are also a lot of historical problems, as outlined by another reviewer. The contacts are far too modern. Elizabeth is an 18-year-old in 1809, life was much different for young women then. Many of the scenarios that Elizabeth and other characters were in would never happen back then.
I suppose though, one of the things that bothered me the most about this story, was how clunky it was. The conversations between the characters just did not flow very well. There was a lot of stilted, awkward conversation, a lot of backtracking between what characters were saying to each other, poor word choices... and the conversations were not natural... there was no flow to the conversations… Not a single one. I found the conversations did not move the story forward, but were jarring and interrupted the story a lot. It was like every character was thinking about what they would say next, instead of listening to the conversation they were in.
In addition, on more than one occasion, the thoughts of different characters.... it was like they had ESP or something… they knew what another character was thinking or feeling or wanting… Without even have talked to the other character and sometimes without having ever MET the other character.
like I said… It's a cute premise, and I think it has merit. But the story itself is clunky and it doesn't flow well, and it seriously needs some editing, revision and reworking. The areas that could have provided some really good drama were cut short, and too much attention was put on conversations that did nothing to move the story forward.
Dear author, please seek assistance -- there are many who would assist you for free, like at Derbyshire Writers Guild and many other Austen lovers sites; check them out! If you are going to charge for your product, you should put the effort into it to make it worth it for the readers to want to pay you for it. In fact, I would not have read it if I had not borrowed it through Kindle Unlimited; if paid for, I would have requested my money refunded.
