Mosquito Bits 'Quick Kill'
Marshy swampy areas inundated with larvae? Sprinkle Mosquito Bits (Quick Kill) as a shock to quickly annihilate the larval population. Corn cob granules coated in BTI, the Bits (do not last long but) provide a punch, turning water black with larvae, to a clear pool void of future mosquitoes. A week after application either supplement with Mosquito Dunks, for long term control or continue to add Bits on a bi-weekly basis. The Mosquito Bits are labeled to control Fungus Gnats in plant beds or pots! Utilizing a similar mode of action for control of mosquito larvae, the Bits, either sprinkled on the soil's surface or mixed with potting soil prior to planting will kill fungus gnat larvae with the same safety and target specific control offered for mosquito larvae.

Day 1: I took a tea strainer put some bits into a disposable cup of warm water. Turned cloudy and after 30 to 45 minutes I poured it in a spray bottle with the best mist out there. A misty spray bottle covers more area than giant droplets or streams. No smell, I wasn't choking coughing like those other sprays. Edit: I started just sprinkling the solution with my hands, the liquid deteriorated the foam in spray bottles.
Areas I Sprayed:
* ALL windows inside and out, doorframes that led to outside, rugs
*Kitchen (sink, under the sink, nearby cabinets, trash can),
*Living area (rugs, cloth furniture like couch),
*Bathroom (rug, trash, cabinet, poured a little down the drains particularly after a shower or handwash),
*Bedroom I removed all fancy bedding, curtains, and pillows and have just had a minimalist thin blanket, 1 sheet, 1 pillow just so I don't wash everything a million times over. I sprayed all my bedding down and put it in bags on the patio or garage. Yes I sprayed my mattress and box spring. I'd also spray my bed every morning upon getting up and at night before bed. I'd toss my throw blanket and pillow in the dryer on high heat for 45 min about an hour before bed. Washed those every other day.
*Closet I did spray it but not as often because I wasn't getting bit there. So once a day or 2.
*Car..... so ....yes these things traveled with me in my clothes and I'd feel them crawling in my pants and shirt while running errands so I sprayed the car before getting in and after getting out...everyday. Personally this stuff is a natural insecticide so getting it on my skin or clothes wasn't an problem for me.
***Extra Tips (1 week update): I did not mop floors where I sprayed immediately, I just left it there for 12hrs. While there isn't an initial smell (didn't have to use a mask while spraying), after 24hrs this stuff smells like puke....so yea just a warning. As instructed I just dumped and used a fresh batch every 48hrs. Also this stuff ruins spray bottles the foam peice on the inside, so I resorted to just using my hands to sprinkle/flick the liquid everywhere....still worked but a bit more tedious. In order to make sure I get all lifespans of the buggers its best to do this for 3 weeks. In that time frame what helped me from being bit was Picardin bug repellent (Deet burned my nose and didn't work) Trick is you can't just spray it on you, I literally had to spray my hands and rub it in morning and night before bed. For sensitive areas like scalp, ears, face, chest, privates was peppermint oil...they seem to hate that stuff and wouldn't crawl there, I smelled like mint gum though. Peppermint oil does tingle for like 5 min like icy hot or mint gum so just a heads up but you can dilute it with another oil. Yes they did crawl in my underwear, I didn't peppermint oil my privates just the perimeter zone, if you want to get intimate....tea tree oil is a good one, they're safe on privates (help with yeast and post partum pregnancy too). Last thing, during meals, what helped was having a fan right beside me when eating. Put any raw meat packages in a grocery bag tie a knot before putting it in the trash. (I sprayed trash cans twice daily)
24hrs later: there is definitely a reduction in the amount I feel around/on me. I did wakeup with some still crawling on me in my thin blanket but that's better than the usual swarm. I'll update in 1 week.
Edit 1 week update: I'll have to keep this up for 2 more weeks at least. I'm reading reviews where some claimed cured after 1 spray but that wasn't my situation. The population was cut by like 20% each day. I still was doused in repellent and twitching at night and fanning my food the first 3-4 days. Now a week later, I don't need a fan anymore. Sleeping is much more doable as I only feel 1 or 2 at night as opposed to a swarm. At the stage where I can ditch repellent but I still use the peppermint/tea tree oil since they hunt my scalp, ears, and privates still. (Yes, all this from a leaky pipe) I just know gnats are all I initially saw, I'm not sure if I had bed bugs or fleas or mites I didn't see any upon inspection. This stuff works better than the 4 other throat burning sprays I've used. Id definitely use this again. And the pack would definitely last me 2-3 months if needed. I can't see any swarms with my eyes I just feel them hovering, biting, and grazing my body. The adults are gone. I'm just getting rid of the juveniles from any eggs as I still don't know where they came from. I'd say at this point 70% are gone after a week.

I think this product finally did it. As others have said, I put some in some water and left it for a couple of days, then watered the plants. I watered all the plants in the house, not just those in the 'infected' room, just in case any gnats had migrated.
It's taken a few weeks of weekly watering, but I haven't seen a gnat in over a week now.
I'll keep going for a bit, then will start using the bits for maybe one watering a month just in case.
This is an expensive product, but if you soak them in water (rather than sprinkling on top of soil), you hardly need to use any. My pot is pretty much full still.
I had heard soaking these bits in warm water to make the mosquito tea to water the soil will work. I’ve watered the soil once to kill the larvae and used the sticky yellow sheets to catch the adults and the result has been outstanding, super pleased with the results and would recommend. I made my solution two heap tablespoons of bits in 2 litres of very hot water, leaving to cool before watering. This strength worked exceptionally well for me.
I read that Diatomaceous Earth would solve the issue, as the larvae like moist soil. I convinced myself this worked, but the odd gnat would still do a flyby. I then moved onto sticky yellow fly paper on all the plants, and it was then I became aware of the extent of the problem. The papers became covered in hundreds of gnats. Far more than I ever could have imagined. This reduced the issue, but the papers were still accruing more bodies daily.
It was then I came across mosquito bites. It had been a long 18 months and I wasn't hopeful. I filled a watering can at the base with the pellets, and added water as directed. It gives off a foul sewer smell, but this smell doesn't travel, but is evident when you pour. After a couple of months of weekly watering, I noticed the reduction in gnats on the yellow paper, and this year I have yet to see a gnat. I declared the war over this summer. I have removed all the sticky yellow paper from the plant pots and have lived a gnat free existence since. The plants have thrived, I assume because the larvae are no longer eating the roots.
I can heartily recommend this. I just wish someone had told me sooner, as I lost some good plants along the way.
