Top Customer Reviews
The most important thing for a case to me is how easy it is to grip. While you want the extra protection, you don't want to increase the odds of dropping your phone due to a slippery case. This case has a great grip that doesn't stick to the inside of my pocket.
My only small complaint is that the power button is a little stiff. Not worth losing a star over!
Edit: a second minor complaint. Due to the curvature of the phone itself, it can be hard to touch the edges of the screen. This is only really been an issue trying to move apps around to new screens. I'm not actually sure how you could avoid this issue, so again, I'm not going to dock any stars.
The black TPU material that makes up most of the case has a great texture for holding the phone securely in your hand. The S7 is a beautiful phone, but slick and slippery; it is very easy to drop, and the outcome of a drop can be catastrophic. At least in many instances, this case will reduce that risk a lot. The material seems to have some sort of very fine texturing you cannot quite see (at least, I can't). The material also has, for want of a better word, a very dry feel to it. In short, very good material for holding a phone securely in hand.
As you can see when you look inside the case, there is a little pocket in each corner. That is the "bumper" design. The phone does not extend into these 4 pockets, so that they serve to absorb shock without transmitting it directly to the phone. Also, along the two long sides of the case, as you hold it in hand, there is additional texturing. You can see it in the Amazon images for the product. The texturing looks like this: ///////////////////. There is a slightly raised lip that runs around the front of the case, rising a little higher on the corners and top and bottom than along the sides, so that when the phone is placed face-down the screen does not touch the surface the phone is resting on. Similarly, on the back there are 4 feet that raise the back ever so slightly. The back of the case is mostly made of a harder, smooth, translucent plastic. It is flat (i.e., not curved) and slightly recessed into the black TPU material that frames it. With these features, the back seems to add surprisingly little bulk to the case and in fact enhances the sense of the case's slenderness. The phone buttons are nicely responsive through the case, which is cut accurately to fit the layout of the phone.
On the whole, this is a well thought out case that fits the phone well, is secure in the hand, and yet remains remarkably slender. It is not designed for maximum protection, of course, but if you want a relatively thin, yet reasonably protective case, this is a good choice.
And now a word about this case and screen protectors: TechMatte's amFilm tempered glass screen protector for the S7 is compatible with this phone case. (I have reviewed that screen protector separately on Amazon.) My Unicorn Beetle case does not cramp or lift the edges of that screen protector off the screen. Between this case and that particular screen protector, the amount of screen that is left uncovered is to be measured in tiny fractions of a millimeter. I mean, it is minute. In some places along the edge I can barely see maybe a hair's width of uncovered screen. That is as good as it gets, if you want to use both a glass screen protector and a case. (It would be very helpful if users of this case, or any other, noted in their reviews what screen protector they use and whether the case is compatible with it.)
I will be looking to Supcase for any future needs.
The only drawback is that the headphone jack hole is not large enough to accommodate the cord I use to connect to my vehicle's audio system. I will be drilling it out so that should not be a problem.
As far as drop protection goes I'm not sure how well it will do. It does seem a little lightweight. I'm very careful with my phone so hopefully I'll never have to find out.
Supcase advertises this case as "The perfect minimalist case." I think that's an excellent tagline. Also, this is a great product for the price.
