I knocked one star off because they do not provide installation instructions, tips, or documentation of any kind.
I spent two hours installing these gas springs in many different positions until I finally found the magic spot where they worked correctly. I would have greatly appreciated some documentation and placement tips for those of us who're not simply replacing existing gas springs.
These came with no instructions, so had to figure it out. Basically, its a ball and socket joint. You don't have to remove the metal clips, which I did on the first set. Just pull straight out on the old piston to remove them. This will expose the ball on the mounting bracket. Then, just push the new piston until it snaps in place. It should take no tools and 5 minutes to replace a set.
I bought a set of Maxpow brand struts for my car, and they are still working well. I was unable to find struts for the topper in the Maxpow brand, so tried these. These are now no better than the old ones I replaced. Very disappointed.

Bought these to replace existing on truck cap - used part number on old one.
Contacted Amazon and was told to contact manufacturer- not interested in doing that.
I purchased from Amazon and would expect customer service from them .
