A now clear bait-and-switch, followed up by the acknowledgment that any person buying a liquid filled compass would notice immediately they did not get what they paid for (after all, the same quality compass I received could be found on amazon in a four pack for $10), should simply return the compass and be thankful Suunto accepted the return. Here's the crux: The ONLY people willing to spend the premium on the SUUNTO brand are the ones who demand and depend on quality. By misrepresenting both a preferred partner's product description, and your OWN website, you have hurt your brand. I am not alone. There are countless reviews on amazon stating this fact for over a year or more. I assumed they were counterfeit, purchased from a 3rd party. I was wrong.
The compass appeared to accurately point north, was easy to read, etc. I'm sure it works decent, but the premium you are paying for here is a liquid filled compass. The declination was not adjustable.
Well. Those reviews are correct. Despite what the ad and the product packaging says, there is no liquid in the chamber. Maybe we all got knockoffs (I bought mine from DipNDive, and the packaging looks legit) or maybe it's a factory defect and we all got the same lot? You don't even need a laser to tell, just tip the compass back and forth an hear the metal arrow clink on the rod.
Other than that, the compass seems to work well and meet the other advertised functions. It's a cheap compass, so I'm not going to bother with returning it, but I am going to reach out to Suunto and see if they will make good on the limited warranty. If they don't, I'll still have an okay compass laying around that I won't cry over if the kids break it or lose it.
The clear circle does not have any magnification. Otherwise It looks exactly as pictured
Finally got a chance to talk to an eagle scout. He told me that mine were definitely not liquid filled. The needle bounces all over while walking. The purpose of the liquid is to minimize that. I'm sending mine back to amazon.
It looks like a compass, but it doesn’t work as one.
