To maximize the slam and impact of your home theater—with a minimal footprint—two SB-1000s can be paired—one on either side of your room. (Special discount available.) This is better than the 12" M&K V176, and the B&W ASW608 I had by far. It is also very good at the higher frequencies which I need because of my speakers' high cross-over point (200-250 hz). Great job SVS!
PS: I am not a professional paid off shill to put up some flowery BS review. Amazon should be ashamed of themselves to ruin such a great review system and marketing tool.
I was able to tune in to that sweet spot rather quickly, and haven't touched the dial since. My speakers are rated down to 50hz, so I started there and slowly worked up. Right now I am somewhere between 50-70hz (60?) with the volume slightly below 50%. Musically this is the sub you want, as it is sealed and not ported. But I was also surprised how well it does for movies. It does get pretty low, and can still wake up the neighbors. However, it does not intrude in your sound space. It seems to disappear and matches well with any audio source I throw at it.
I just ordered the Samsung 4k Blu-ray player with The Martian, San Andreas, Mad Max Fury, and Life of Pi - all in 4k. I've only watched Mad Max so far, but it was a joy to listen to. I can't wait to watch the other movies!
The only negative so far, is that there is a noticeable cutoff for very deep bass (sub 35hz). To me, that isn't a big deal as this sub has gotten me back into loving subs again! It really sounds that good!
Did I get anything else out of it at all? With the crossover at 80Hz instead of 60Hz I got a more weighty thicker sound overall which I really like almost a bit more depth in the soundstage either from the added bass or how the bass is interacting with the room. I played bass-shy music like Sonny Clark’s “Cool Struttin’” and it had more weight to acoustic bass and drums. I played Calexico with Iron & Wine’s “In the Reins” and the sound was thicker and deeper overall turning off the subwoofer gave an immediately more thin presence to the tone of the music. Listen it really really shines when I play “do you want more?!?!!!!?” by the Roots obviously the whole album sounded had a nice kicking bass thump without being overwhelming or ever noticing when the subwoofer versus the speakers were doing their thing. It disappeared into the sound which is what you want them to do when you are listening to music after all.
What about movies? I listen mostly to music so let me keep this brief. If you really want to piss your neighbors off this is not the subwoofer for you. Still, if I turn the sub all the way up and play a 40HZ test tone my wife did text me and go “WTF are you doing down there?” It is great for fast paced shoot-em-ups all John Wick style but with a solo sub in a basement you do have to crank it up from music listening volume to get the big explosion thumps you want from a super hero MCU Avengers battle. But this subwoofer can still pull it off. Which is way nice.
Overall, this subwoofer is very musical and can pull off movies unless you have a need for shaking your bowels into total irritation and driving your neighborhood insane.
