For medium range I needed a discerning crosshair for distance. I was worried the First Focal Place (FFP) would render it too thick and cover small targets. Not to worry--SWFA's crosshairs don't intersect. They stop just short and is a .15 MOA center dot (see) that does not obscure even a small target at 6x. That's just over 1.5" at 300 yards. I'm shooting sub-MOA groups at that distance, so the accuracy and precision is there.
The illuminated reticle works great in our heavily forested, heavily shaded 100 yard range. The lightest setting does not throw a halo, so even the center dot remains distinct. At full brightness the reticle is visible in sunlight.
My only con is that the zoom is STILL daggon hard to turn after several years of use. I really need to invest in a lever but they are stupid expensive for what you get. If you want a light scope, this isn't it. I don't mind it--it balances my rig--but it's not light. But it is built like a tank. I would like to try the 1-4, as it would probably give me enough zoom for medium range, and weight savings is considerable. But at 6x... tough to beat.
Features I like:
FFP for ranging and holdovers at any zoom
Glass is exceptionally bright, with good contrast
Good range of illumination
Precise aiming dot in center of crosshairs
Rugged, rugged, rugged
SWFA lifetime, transferrable warranty and great reputation for customer satisfaction
I was shooting with an ex-Marine, current Secret Serviceman recently. He said it was the most practical rig he ever worked with, and especially liked the scope! If the specs fit your needs, you can buy it with confidence. I would trust my life with this one.
