Update #1 - I have owned the ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q monitor for about 6 weeks now, and I still have no issues to report. I just recently picked up a second GTX 980 to run two of them in SLI and this monitor has been working flawlessly with the new configuration. I love this thing!
Update #2 - I have now owned the ROG Swift for about 6 months, and it is still the best monitor I have ever owned. I noticed the price has went down about $120 recently, so do yourself a favor and scoop one up!
Update #3 - I have owned this monitor for roughly a year at this point, and I still love it. No problems to speak of.
I received my new ROG Swift on 1/29/16. The return and refund from BuyVPC was fast and easy, and in fact I purchased the replacement from them as well. This time everything worked as it should, no dead or stuck pixels, this monitor is amazing! It looks gorgeous, the adjustment for height, tilt and swivel are remarkably smooth and the controls for on screen setup are placed comfortably. The set up menu is easy to navigate and the controls are simple. Everything looks fantastic on this screen. Now the primary reason I bought this monitor is for gaming and that is certainly where it really shines. After having it for only about two weeks now, I've put in some serious hours of gaming with it and now that I've experienced G-Sync I don't think I could ever go back to a monitor without it. I could blather on about how awesome this monitor is, but it simply does everything is says it can do as advertised. It's a shame really that it's possible to receive on that's defective, but that goes for any electronics. Even though I had to return the initial purchase, I do not regret my decision to buy one bit. Yes, it was disheartening to have to problems with the first one, but in the end it's totally worth it. The ROG Swift lived up to all my expectations.
I just received my ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q monitor today, and it's a bust. The entire left side of the screen either has vertical lines or some crazy color banding (see pics). I was aware of the issues this monitor is prone to having, although plenty of users have no issues so I went for it. I started my return request today so I can exchange for another (hopefully working panel). Everything I've seen and read about the Rog Swift was enough for me to forgo my caution. In general I love Asus products and have been using there motherboards, graphics cards (just got the strix 980ti to go with this monitor too, thankfully it worked out of the box as expected, its a beast) and monitors trouble free for years. this is the first time I've gotten a dud, hence the 1 star which I'll happily change once I get a working Swift.
On a side note, Ive never actually had to rma anything since first pc build back in 2004 so this will be a new experience. Guess my luck finally ran out lol. But after going through the steps provided all I got was a return/refund option? Still have to wait on the approval from the seller. I don't actually want a refund, I want to return this one in exchange for another working monitor. Guess I'll have to see what options I'm given when I hear from the seller. I'm not sure how this process actually works. Will update my review when I get it replaced.
I would like to thank you for taking your time in writing this review. We certainly value your feedback. First of all, this is only 2k monitor with 144hz gsync and 1ms refresh rate. You will not get these specs & features on any other monitor currently out.
I didn't want a 4ms-crap-lag rate, so that restricted me from buying the 279, despite being an IPS, but the 278 is beautiful despite not being an IPS.
I was hesitant because of infinite complainers about the backlight bleeding.... but none of that even exists, or is visible to my eye. No faulty firmware, no dual line bugs on screen, no ice cream color firmware problems, no back light bleeding, no problems.
The color are nice. I'm not one who studies or gets off to color balancing, only modify it to my personal tastes. There are no HDMI ports, but I do not feel they are really necessary.
If you want your eyes to feel like they are being soothed by the lightest and fluffiest of feathers, this is your monitor.
Took photos of slightly different angles. The yellow and green blobs are just from weird lighting in my room, but no visible bleeding to my knowledge/visiblity.
First Days of Life: Bought 6/4; Received 6/6 -- Asus now double checks each monitor by putting through a QC because of the backlight bleed complaints. GL and hopefully your RNG turns out well.
Pending: updates within months ~ a year
