It is very well packaged. The box cover opens to view the pieces under a plastic cover. There are very many pieces and they are impressive in their modeling and detailed coloring. The box is very sturdy and will hold up for years I'm sure. This is a quality item and would make a nice gift for a family or for a wide range of individual ages.
After Christmas: So now we've played it. A lot of fun, but be prepared to allow several hours to complete the game. There are 4 realms you have to visit with your chosen wizard game piece. In order to get to each realm you must navigate the labyrinth board. Along the way you might land on any of several different special spaces. As you play you will discover which ones you want to land on and which ones you don't, as some are quite good and others fated to harm you. You can manipulate the plays a little bit, but not always. So there is a bit of luck and a bit of plotting to be had.
It's good for most ages. If an adult is playing to help things along I think even 6 or 7 year olds could get the gist of it. The pieces are colorful and inviting, as are the playing board and direction cards.
The play is quite varied, so even though it takes some time to play, it's not likely to get boring. I was pleased that my grandchildren enjoyed playing something that involved a group instead of being glued to a digital game for a change. And I liked that they had to learn how to be a "sporting" player. There's not much social interaction these days, and this games does provide an opportunity for that.
