Sabina Quartet Paperback – January 1, 2010
Spilsbury's stories about a farming community in the olive hills outside Rome bring to life an ancient world where foreigners and locals have always lived, often in completely separate spheres. The unique culture of the place and its inhabitants, steeped in the historic rivalries and social hierarchies of Italy's medieval hilltowns, finds vivid protrayal in these stories set to the four seasons that have dominated the activity of daily life for centuries.

Author Gail Spilsbury has a gift for describing the beautiful and sometimes haunting Sabina area in Italy. These four short tales take American painter, Julie Barrett, who has taken up residence among the Sabina olive groves, through the four seasons as she experiences and learns from the colorful (and sometimes exasperating) locals. Spilsbury's beautiful language makes the reader want to hop on the next plane and head for the Italian countryside.

This moving, entertaining and beautifully written collection of short stories will take you to the hills of Sabina- a short train ride from Rome.
