Cheap but effective

If you are looking for something that is nice looking with a solid feel look elsewhere. However if what you need is a cheap and effective 2.5” enclosure that does eSATA and/or USB 2.0 this is perfect.

I bought this to house a 2.5” SSD so I could move files around quickly therefore I really needed the eSATA interface. Although this does not come with a eSATA cable it does come with two other cables. It comes with a 2:1 USB cable, this is for connecting over USB and makes sure that 2.5" drives that require extra power are supported. It also comes with a USB to power cable that pluges into the round power connector on the enclosure, this needs to be used when you connect the enclosure with eSATA.

One other consideration. This device is not designed to regularly disassemble/reassemble to change the internal 2.5” drive. Look at the center picture that shows the disassembled product and I will explain how it is assembled and why it is not suited for that type of use.
1) The plastic cover that houses the electronic portion of this product is pushed onto the SATA ports on your 2.5” drive
2) Both are slid into the metal enclosure
3) Two small tapered self-threading screws are inserted through the holes in the metal enclosure and bored into the plastic cover that houses the electronics and connectors.
These are not machine screws, the cover is not metal or pre-threaded. I suspect you will only be able to unscrew and re-bore these screws a few times before the plastic wears out. As long as you do not plan to disassemble/reassemble the enclosure frequently this will not be a problem.

The issue I note above is not a problem for me, I point it out because I know some people regularly change the drives in enclosures for diagnostic and troubleshooting.

I am very ahppy with my purchase and would buy this product again.

Perfect and great price

I purchased this and a separate e-sata cable. The drive was a little loose in the enclosure so I added some padding inside the enclosure. The e-sata cable provides for at least 4 times the transfer rate of the USB cable. The enclosure comes with two dongles; one for USB connectivity and one for power. Using the USB cable does not require the USB power dongle. I use the power dongle with the e-sata cable. The enclosure also comes with a nice leather like holder. The four stars is due to the lack of an e-sata cable provided but there are so many different ones available at low prices that it is probably best.

Purchased this to use with my Macs. Installed a Seagate 7200RPM 500GB hard drive, plugged it in to the MacBook Pro with just one USB cable, and it was recognized immediately and appears to work fine. I haven't run any speed tests on it, but was able to format and mount the drive, and write/read/remove files from it.

It's a very thin metal case, with plastic on the ends. Overall, it feels very cheap. But it works, and will probably be just fine for using not as a portable drive but for a stationary drive on the desk (for extra storage or maybe even for TimeMachine).

This hard drive enclosure is metal, but it is inexpensively made and allows the hard drive to move around inside. I padded my hard drive with pieces of electrical tape to secure it so it wouldn't rattle. Enclosure is closed with sharp pointed screws. (Consider other enclosures with a tray to secure the hard drive, which is then secured to the hard drive enclosure with blunt screws.) It comes with USB 2.0 cable. It works fine. Its functional. I will upgrade to a better enclosure that meets my needs.

I bought this enclosure to use on my WII. The unit is plastic and very basic. It comes with a dual usb cable and a 12v to usb cable. I use the the dual usb cable without an issue. I haven't had any real problems with it yet. I installed a western digital blue 500gb hard drive. My only two complaints are there is no ventilation so your hard drive WILL get hot very quickly, and the lack of an e-sata cable. Other then that its a great product for the price.

It seemed to be ok at first, but after trying to use the eSATA connector, I discovered that the enclosure spuriously disconnected about 30 seconds after being plugged in. I've tested with multiple SSD drives, and the problem persists in USB mode as well. Perhaps it's just a faulty cable that came with it, but in any event, it's representative that this product is a mixed bag, and it may not work properly in all situations.

Bought this case for my spinning disk drive I had replaced with a ssd. It worked well for a while and I was happy with it. Though the first time I dropped the drive it broke and the case did not protect it. I didn't expect much from an enclosure this cheap but I thought it would give some protection from a 2ft drop. It didn't.
