Why does everything have to have stupid-bright blue LEDs?

Warranty voiding information. OH NOES! Perform at your own risk.

I find the LEDs to be annoying, and unnecessary, especially because they remain on in a system standby state. Furthermore, each little LED / resistor combo probably just saps the hub of 20-30mA that could go to attached devices. I have a lot of experience in electronics and the obvious solution seemed best for me for a $10 piece of gear. I permanently disabled the LEDs on two of these. Open the hub with a flat tool of some sort by carefully prying starting where the USB connector is located. It helps to have all 4 buttons pressed in. You'll see each LED clearly marked on the PCB. If unsure, plug it in to see them light up.

While unplugged, carefully pop each LED out of the PCB with a small screwdriver or similar. Take care not to scrape or bump any other components. I pushed it in toward each button to lift. If it doesn't come clean off of the solder joint, it doesn't matter. All it really takes is a substantial crack in the diode to render it useless. The LED current passes through a nearby current-limiting resistor to the common grounding planes, and disabling them doesn't impact the hub chip's performance. Verify that there are no pieces of LED left in the case. Carefully test all four ports after plugging it back in. Replace the cover and live happy without that annoying blue LED.

You could also instead just cut the traces near the LEDs, or try to lift the nearby resistor. Your mileage may vary with this method. It's too hard to get a sharp blade in there without a really small Exacto knife.

Another less destructive option might be to just cover the LED with a few layers of permanent marker or nail polish. I've seen this recommended on other sites. The problem with this device is the board is so small and the components are packed in very tightly.

The end result; The hubs work great in Linux and I can keep them permanently attached and all switches on without all of the annoying constant blue burst of LED light.

Pros:
- Cheap. At $10 its a good deal
- USB3 devices perform at almost the same speed as if plugged in directly
- Has individual switches so you can turn off devices until you need them
- Small and portable

Cons:

- ports are kinda too close together. If they were vertical, it would be fine, but since it's horizontal, some usb flash drives may not fit next to each other.
- I used it with a bluetooth dongle to connect my mouse and keyboard and it lags pretty bad for the mouse. Keyboard is not that bad, but mouse is unusable.

I purchased this hub for what I perceived, having read over the description, the features and benefits were:

1) A stated length of 32.09 inches - more than long enough to get the hub where I needed it to be.
2) That each power button functioned as a means to turn the connection between the computer and the device on or off. After all, the description specifically states, "Plus, each port has its own separate power switch so you can control each port independently." To me, that sounds like a push of a button would connect/disconnect the device from the computer.

I started thinking about it after I had placed the order. Length is 32.09 inches...and the depth and width are 21.65 and 23.54? Ok, that didn't seem right. But, having placed the order, I figured I'd let it slide for the time being.

1) Unfortunately... The ACTUAL length of this hub, from tip to tip, is approximately 14.75 inches. Width, 1.5". Depth, just shy of .75". Not sure where the "21.65 x 23.54 x 32.09 in" came from. The biggest drawback is that the cable isn't even long enough to go from the back of my computer to the top of my desk so that'll REQUIRE the use of additional cabling which I'm not fond of unless it's temporary.
2) The power buttons DO work as advertised, so that's a plus.

This hub would likely work perfectly for you if you were using it with a laptop, so both devices were on the same, level surface. It DOES do the job that it states, so I can't knock it for that. But I can't justify giving it a full three stars. If I could, I'd go 2.5 stars.

Sort of works, but not great. So this has a few problems, let's start with the most common problem, other people are most likely to run into.
1. Data transmission speed is very slow, like USB 1 slow. Maybe slower.
2. When hooked up to multiple devices, and they are all turned on, then the connection doesn't work well, if at all. It either stops completely or is very slow. For instance, I have multiple external hard drives hooked up and was backing-up the same file from my laptop to all 3 external hard drives at once. It didn't work. Fail.
3. One of the external hard drives is encrypted with a password. The password prompt doesn't come up and the hard drive doesn't engage at all, ever, through this hub; even if it is the only device that is turned on through the hub.

TOP 1000 REVIEWERon December 31, 2016
Perfect Hub! I bought this to go with a wired mouse/keyboard combo for my teen son's PC that he uses for gaming and it's exactly what we needed. He can plug in his audio/mic headset with lights, his wired keyboard, wired mouse, and still have extra ports on his Gaming PC. The ability to turn individual ports on and off is fabulous because when you have a gaggle of cords behind a giant monitor, the blue lights that indicate what's on and off and and ability to just hit a switch on each port rather than struggling to plug/unplug things blindly is fantastic. I thought the price was a little high at first, but upon receiving and using this for 4 devices that are powering lighted, "always-on" devices....this performs well above my expectations. His devices are all multiplayer-gaming-approved speedy with zero problems whatsoever. And since he never bothers to turn anything off...this makes my life easier walking by and hitting the switches rather than trying to unplug a mess.

These are perfect for any at-home or office use and deliver excellent power, portability, quality, and especially convenience. You can't beat the 3.0 ability that can handle any older or newer devices you want to use. I will be purchasing one of these for the adult computers and devices in this house for sure to clean up OUR cord mess and make the most of the USB devices we're using. The lighted buttons are brilliant and I don't know why more companies can't make streamlined, affordable Hubs like this one. Will definitely buy again!

I needed something that handled my growing USB 3.0 cable connections to my laptop and surface pro 3 which are already equipped with USB 3.0 ports.
I found this item on amazon lightning deal so I thought to give it a try. I was impressed after using it with some of my USB 3.0 devices. The speed was as expected and the little power switches on each port was handy so you can trigger each port with a button if you need to keep it connected to this hub all time but only use those connected devices on occasions.

Update 6/24/2017: As customer support representative mentioned, this little USB hub indeed has the connector for the power adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-100V-240V-Adapter-Support-PS-5V4A/dp/B00MRGKPH8
So, I am increasing it to 4-star - one star still deducted because of the unacceptable packaging.

Original review:
--------------------
I just want to confirm that this inexpensive hub is OK, worth the price. Power switches for each port are useful.
It would be a 5-star product if there were no two significant issues:
(-1 star) This hub does not provide input for power supply (I understand that there is a more expensive model that provides it)
(-1 star) The packaging is horrible. It has a plastic hanger attached to the cardboard box and inside it has some kind of plastic foam holding the hub. It is way bigger than needed for this small hub. Also, the foam is glued to the piece of cardboard, so you cannot recycle it. Companies should think about the sustainable packaging - it should be minimal and consumers should be able to recycle it. Avoid plastic/foam as much as you can.

The hub would not recognize a USB 2 powered drive was attached (yes the power switch on the hub was on). I tried different ports and disconnecting other devices but no success.
It did recognize and operate a USB 2 printer.
The cord is really short. I supplemented with a USB extension cable.
It is tiny. Much smaller then the picture implies. It needs to be double sided taped down if you dont want it dangling on the end of a cable.

I had one issue with this hub. With my Logitech USB wireless keyboard attached, if I powered off my Dell XPS 8700 PC from 2014, I had to also power off the hub port it was connected to and power it back on before the PC would recognize my attached keyboard. So, I had to connect this keyboard by a USB 2.x hub in order to work around this issue.

Other than that, I've not encountered anything I would say detracts from this product. YET.

EDIT: 02-20-2017 - Discovered that the issue wasn't with the hub. My wireless keyboard up and died on its own. Either its transmitter or receiver stopped working. I replaced the batteries and it still didn't work. I hooked up my wired USB keyboard I keep on hand for just such emergencies and it worked. My Logitech wireless mouse still works, so, it's something with the keyboard or its receiver. So, the problem was not with the hub.

EDIT: 02-26-2017 - Discovered something. I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but it seems if my PC is powered off and back on, my Brother USB printer will remain "offline" until the power button on its USB 3 port on the hub is powered off and back on.

It was apparently a fluke as I can't replicate the printer issue.

I didn't expect this little device to be so helpful. I am using this USB hub on a laptop that only had two USB ports to start with. I've had it for nearly three months now and use it every day.

I can now connect the dongles for the mouse and keyboard (separate brands) and leave them in. Before I had to unplug either the keyboard or mouse if I wanted to connect an additional device such as a flash drive (32gb or less) or a charging cable.

The main issue I have is if the lights are off while I'm on the computer, the blue indicator lights are a bit distracting. I can turn over the device so the light isn't as annoying, though. I know the lights are to help the person know which port is powered but buttons are either raised (when off) or depressed (when on) and that is enough of an aid for me [shown in picture]. As a side note, one of the blue lights actually isn't working when powered, anyways (can you tell which one?).

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the transfer speeds of this device, if that is something important for you. Nor have I tested it on external hard drives (I don't own any). I just know that it works for me fine.

Overall, a good USB hub to start out with that is fairly cheap.
